Here’s what the images don’t show. #EricaSayre and husband #CliffordGaleSayre of Evans, WV, charged with multiple felonies after investigators say three orphaned children endured years of abuse in a “real-life House of Horrors.” Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says the kids reported being repeatedly struck, strangled, starved, denied food/water and bathroom access, forced to run barefoot on gravel, hit with objects until they bled (and denied medical care), had soiled socks shoved in their mouths, cat litter dumped in their beds, and dog feces put on their belongings. One child was allegedly restrained by Clifford while Erica cut her hair with a razor blade, causing injury. They were also tormented about their deceased biological parents and threatened if they told anyone. Physical evidence included scars matching the children’s accounts, which corroborated each other. One child told investigators, “I can’t go back to that home.” Another said she “just wants a normal life” and summarized it as “Mom hits us and Gale lets her.” All 3 children have been removed. Both adults posted bond. Erica faces a preliminary hearing Nov. 20; Clifford’s case is headed to the grand jury. Erica Lynn Sayre, 45, and her husband, Clifford Gale Sayre, 46, of Evans, WV, face felony charges after 3 kids told investigators about their years inside the home. According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, the children were: ▪️ Hit and strangled. ▪️ Denied food, water and bathroom access. ▪️ Given beds with soiled cat litter dumped in them, and belongings with dog feces put on them. ▪️ Forced to run barefoot on a gravel driveway as punishment for any conflict with Erica. ▪️ Struck with household objects, causing bleeding injuries. ▪️ Forced to put a soiled sock in their mouths. ▪️ Made to have their hair forcibly cut. The sheriff also said: ▪️ 1 girl was hit in the head with an electronic device, bled, and was denied medical care. ▪️ 1 girl was threatened with death if she contacted CPS. ▪️ The children were tormented about their deceased biological parents. ▪️ Clifford allegedly watched the abuse and did nothing. 1 girl says he held her hands while Erica cut her hair with a razor blade, injuring her. ▪️ The children told investigators the abuse happened "because mom hits us and Gale lets her." ▪️ 1 child said, "I can't go back to that home." ▪️ Scars, photos and medical exams back up the children's accounts, according to the sheriff. 🔴 THE CHARGES ▪️ Erica: 3 counts of child abuse resulting in bodily injury and 3 counts of child neglect creating risk of injury. ▪️ Clifford: 3 counts of child neglect resulting in bodily injury and 3 counts of child neglect creating risk of injury.
