The project also planned future validation using 3D in vitro models.
🤝 Congratulations to Prof. Cigdem Aydin Acar (Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University) and Assoc. Prof. Gokhan Gorgisen (University of Health Sciences) for this collaboration!
💡Exploring ERBB2/HER2 in cholangiocarcinoma! 🧬
Through a Virtual Mobility Grant from COST Action CA22125 (#PrecisionBTCNetwork), researchers investigated ERBB2 expression, genomic alterations, prognostic value and immune associations to advance precision oncology.
🌍 Released to coincide with World Cholangiocarcinoma Day, the video helped raise awareness of this rare and under-recognised cancer, highlighting the importance of making scientific knowledge accessible to a wider audience.

🧬 As a #PrecisionBTC Virtual Mobility Grant recipient, he combined oncology research and generative AI to create an animated educational video on biliary tract cancers, making complex science accessible to the public and raising awareness of this rare, under-recognised cancer.
🎥 Turning cancer research into accessible science!
Meet Dr. Samuel McInerney, Specialist Registrar in Medical Oncology at Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, PhD candidate at the University of Edinburgh, and Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Glasgow.
📍 Barcelona → London
A great example of how Mobility Grants can support scientific exchange, international collaboration and new opportunities for researchers in biliary tract cancer.
During her stay, Natalia:
🧬 Gained experience in clinical research and trial implementation.
🔬 Contributed to an international 84-patient study on dMMR/MSI-H biliary tract cancer.
📊 Supported work on the BILCAP dataset and future research on early recurrence.
Her mission focused on clinical and translational research in cholangiocarcinoma and biliary tract cancers, including recurrence, metastasis and dMMR/MSI-H disease.
🔬 Precision-BTC Mobility Grants Spotlight
Meet Natalia Soledad Tissera, STSM Grantee from VHIO, Barcelona, who completed her mission at UCL & UCLH Macmillan Cancer Centre, London, under the supervision of Prof. John Bridgewater.

📈 Matched targeted therapy improved outcomes after chemoimmunotherapy failure, particularly in second line.
📌 These findings show how early molecular profiling in advanced BTC is key to identifying actionable alterations and guiding timely targeted treatment.
🔬 The multinational study included 1,358 patients treated with cisplatin, gemcitabine and durvalumab across 55 centres in 12 countries.
🧪 79% underwent molecular testing, identifying actionable alterations in 22.2%, with 32% receiving matched targeted therapy.
👥 The study was co-led by Precision-BTC Network members Dr. Andrea Casadei Gardini and Dr. Lorenza Rimassa with additional Network members contributing as co-authors🧬.
📢 New publication!
We’re pleased to have supported the open access publication of this international collaborative study on matched targeted therapies following first-line chemoimmunotherapy in advanced biliary tract cancer (BTC).

🧬 A 6-month virtual programme connecting young researchers, clinicians and nurses with experienced mentors, while bringing together professionals committed to advancing the future of biliary tract cancer research.
His work included miR-96 transfection and the assessment of proliferation, apoptosis, cell-cycle arrest, migration and mitochondrial respiration.
Thank you, Gonçalo, for sharing your experience, and to everyone who made this scientific exchange possible! 🙌
During his mission, Gonçalo investigated the functional effects of microRNAs in cholangiocarcinoma (CCA), combining:
🔬 Bioinformatic analysis of miRNA expression
🧪 In vitro assessment of miRNA modulation
🧬 In vivo validation of selected miRNAs
Meet Gonçalo Carvalho, an MSc student from the Faculdade de Farmácia da Universidade de Lisboa, who completed a Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM) from Lisbon, Portugal, to San Sebastián, Spain.
