Two complete mock exams. One weekend in London. We’re excited to announce PrepMedico’s first face-to-face FRCS General Surgery Section 2 mock examination—a full simulation designed to bring you as close as possible to the real exam experience. One of the common reasons for failure, despite good knowledge and thorough preparation, is the challenge of facing the examiners face to face on the day of the exam. So train yourself. Test yourself—not once, but twice—before you go to the real exam! The London FRCS General Surgery Mock gives you the opportunity to put your preparation to the test, receive individual feedback and apply it in a second complete mock the following day. 16–17 January 2027 Whittington Health NHS Foundation Trust, London Across the weekend: • Two complete mock examinations, with six viva stations per mock and real exam timings. • Twelve formal viva encounters, totalling 6 hours 40 minutes of one-to-one viva examination. • Ten minutes of examiner feedback after every station. • Different examiners on Sunday, giving you a fresh assessment. • A faculty of 14–16 experienced examiners. • RCSEd CPD points and a certificate. Only 20 participant places. Registration opens on 8 November 2026. Preparing for FRCS General Surgery Section 2? Join us in London to test your readiness, identify the gaps and make your final preparation count. FRCS SBA of the day 23-year-old man, renal transplant 8 months ago (induction; tacrolimus, MMF, prednisolone). Fever, weight loss, generalised lymphadenopathy; CT: extensive lymphadenopathy and extranodal bowel-wall lesions.
1
1
106
Correct answer: D — Epstein–Barr virus. PTLD is strongly associated with EBV-driven B-cell proliferation, especially in EBV-seronegative recipients with primary EBV infection after transplant; immunosuppression reduces T-cell surveillance.
1
12
Closest distractor: A — CMV: major post-transplant morbidity, but EBV, not CMV, is classically linked to PTLD. EBV → PTLD. CMV → opportunistic infection. BK virus → renal allograft nephropathy.
15
FRCS SBA of the day 86-year-old man, incidental 6.8-cm infrarenal AAA. CTA: short, severely angulated 14-mm neck, extensive calcification, small tortuous iliacs. Standard EVAR not anatomically suitable.
1
1
70
Correct answer: D — Specialist vascular assessment + shared decision-making; conservative management likely if risks of repair outweigh benefit. 6.8 cm meets the size criterion, but NICE weighs anatomy, age, life expectancy, fitness and comorbidity against rupture risk.
1
1
17
Closest distractor: C — Complex EVAR. Tempting with hostile anatomy, but benefit vs conservative care is uncertain if unfit for open repair. Why not E? A frail patient with a 6.8-cm AAA still needs specialist review. AAA >5.5 cm → consider repair, not automatic repair.
11
FRCS SBA of the day An 82-year-old man has 4 days of RUQ pain, fever and vomiting. CT: markedly distended, thick-walled gallbladder with inflammatory change and an impacted stone in the gallbladder neck. No CBD dilatation.
1
66
Correct answer: C — Percutaneous cholecystostomy. Early lap chole is usually preferred (NICE: within 1 week), but he has ongoing gallbladder sepsis despite treatment and is unfit for GA. Cholecystostomy gives source control without immediate GA.
1
35
Closest distractor: A — antibiotics alone don't drain an infected, obstructed gallbladder. Why not ERCP? No CBD obstruction or cholangitis; ERCP won't drain a gallbladder with an occluded cystic duct. Once fit, reconsider lap chole (NICE CG188).
