What the midterms repudiated was the endless war with Iran on Israel's behalf, and the whole relationship that comes with it. That's why Trump dangled 5k checks, but only if Republicans held both chambers. That's why he went on Fox the morning of Election Day to announce he's cutting $4 billion in aid to Israel. The five grand was never coming. The cut is a magic trick. The aid deal was set to expire in 2028 anyway, and Trump said it himself: Israel "can buy whatever they want." The real money keeps flowing through defense contracts and a military that's already fused with theirs. If he stops being loved here, he can always run for prime minister over there. He's already said it. The economy's still wrecked. The surveillance state's still going up without a hitch. Iran's still on the target list. Israel's still milking. Technocracy is just around the corner. But now we've got the big bad blue Democrats to soak up your dismay. More pointing to Russia and China. Look here not there. One side lights the match. The other sells you the fire insurance. Both cash the premium. The bill still comes to you. You didn't vote your way out of anything. They bought time and harvested your consent to be ruled. You got a little relief. Just enough to keep you in your seat, clapping while the new cast learns the same lines. Intermission ends in two years. Same theater. Same script. Same exit doors, locked from the outside. The faces change but the play never does.
