❌👩🏻🔬🌀😵💫Mechanical agitation and Irreproducibility
A growing # of papers like “Magnetic Stirring May Cause Irreproducible Results in Chemical Reactions”
highlight that vortexing and stirring can introduce large, position-dependent variability by changing shear forces, dissolution rates, and particle interactions.
Mechanical agitation is currently a somewhat underappreciated contributor to irreproducibility, but the literature is growing. More citations in reply.
I have been working on
novel methods and provisionals to improve reproducibility and minimize variability in protocols. 👩🏻🔬💡🚀✨💫
❌👩🏻🔬🔬74% of scientific research is not reproducible and this is a big problem. Part of this is inadequate Methods description. Excellent article from @AsimovPress on the History of Methods and ways to improve it.
I was a History of Science / Medicine major, so I particularly enjoyed this article, but important for anyone.
Separately, I’m working and have developed AI platforms and methods to improve the reproducibility and consistency of lab assays and methods for knowledge transfer in labs and for external lab replication. 👩🏻⚕️👩🏻🔬👩🏻💻🚀✨💫

New Essay: Inventing the Methods Section
Many science methods are difficult to understand or replicate. The U.S. alone invests ~$28 billion annually in irreproducible biomedical research.
How have methods evolved over four millennia, and how can we make them better? By @Andrew_C_Hunt.

This is a broader than medicine or science. This is how to accelerate US innovation and productivity! 🇺🇸🚀✨💫
Tabula rasa unbiased AI analysis for first pass and a goal of quicker budget allocation of 1-3 months can and should apply to any agency and budget allocation.
Humans always have final say.
New project idea I’ll propose to ARPA-H or some kind of NIH SBIR or NSF — 🌟to accelerate and improve grant submissions and funding process. 🌟
🌟The first step of grant review should be tabula rasa just based on content and merit, not institution or PI or other demographics / factors unrelated to science.
People *say* they want new investigators, but then it’s always said: This person and research is “not proven”. And then tenured faculty and they always say person has decades of experience and $7 million in funding, ideas must be good. Not always true ideas or research is better
I’m going to run grants tabula rasa through multiple LLMs and see how the AI grades them and can compare to the human review.
Let me know if you’re interested in colloaborating or having your grant review tabula rasa; especially if rejected.
I bet it will have a higher score when confounding factors like prestigious institution or prior funding are taken out..

Most phone-based microplastic tests only detect one type of plastic — polystyrene — which makes up less than 10% of what’s actually in our water. 🫤
EcoExposure™ detects all major plastics — PE, PP, PET, PVC, PS — in real water samples, with no special equipment required! 🤩
This is the first video in our EcoExposure™ Series! Stay tuned for the next one! 👀
If there’s anything else, you’d like to know, drop it in the comments. 👇
Real plastics. Real water. Real results. 🌍💧

94% of U.S. tap water has microplastics (2018 study). 😱 Our EcoExposure water test is the first field microplastics test kit in development. 💧🌱📲
It can help cities and communities plan cleaner water systems and safer cities by detecting microplastics on-site frequently. 🏙️💧⭐️
No need for expensive and slow lab-based testing (1-3 weeks)! 😎

💧Most water filters weren’t built for microplastics. And many are made of plastic themselves.
If we’re filtering plastic… why use plastic to do it? 🧐
It’s time to rethink filtration from the inside out.
