Presentations from Chile and Colombia, the requesting parties to the Inter-American Convention on Human Rights, get things rolling. 3 days to come with interventions from nations, international organizations, independent experts and academics, and civil society organizations.
Things are underway early here at the University of West Indies in Bridgetown with an orientation to the rules of the road for the historic hearings on climate change and human rights @IACourtHR
Necessary but not sufficient: In a victory for the planet and its residents, countries @UNFCCC #Cop28Dubai call for 1st time for transition away from fossil fuels. Caveats, of course, and no mandates or requirements, but it's a key development nonetheless.
The Solicitor General weighs in, argues #SCOTUS should deny fossil fuel defendants' petition for cert in Boulder's lawsuit seeking damages for the impacts of #climatechange. SG argues that 10th Circuit properly declined to recharacterize the state law claims as federal in nature.
#Climate case update: A federal district court judge in Maryland extended its temporary stay of its remand of common law and consumer fraud claims brought by the City of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County against fossil fuel companies (climatecasechart.com/wp-cont…). Key rationale below
In a decision that will surpise few of those watching the climate deception cases, the Third Circuit has (like the 1st, 4th, 9th and 10th) affirmed remand of Hoboken's and Delaware's lawsuits to state court.

To state the obvious: In the past week the Supreme Court has taken away a woman's right to abortion and bodily autonomy and Indian rights to sovereignty, based on bad history & cramped constitutional interpretation. Today is the grand finale. Climate change is on the board.
Kavanaugh asked SG Prelogar to affirm two key principles of the MQD. Prelogar affirmed that that is how the Court has analyzed the question, but that it always did so to an actual rule, not a hypothetical or abstract scenario.
