My review of George Peden's Churchill, Chamberlain and Appeasement. An excellent book: highly recommended: winstonchurchill.hillsdale.e…
Absolutely thrilled by the new review from Robin Prior.
"I thoroughly recommend this excellent book to anyone interested in the First World War. It is essential, with a capital E, reading and a delight to review." Thank you, @prior_robin !! tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.…
Anyone who has read my Churchill and the Dardanelles will, of course, realize my great debt to @prior_robin's groundbreaking book Churchill's World Crisis as History, which makes the praise especially gratifying.
Other favorite take-aways:
"Bell does a fine job in investigating this question in a forensic examination of the sources that we have come to expect from him."
"lucid and penetrating"
"highly original"
"fascinating discussion"
Many thanks, James! First time I've put a meme into a conference powerpoint. So relieved it got a good reaction!

In WWII, the Allies used the 'Hedgehog' anti-submarine weapon to devastating effect.
It was a cluster of 24 spigot mortars fired ahead of the ship, creating a spread of explosions to destroy German U-boats.
The Hedgehog was highly effective in securing victory at sea.
Shocked and saddened to hear this news. James Goldrick was a first-rate scholar and a true gentleman. aspistrategist.org.au/rememb…

A cartoon published in Punch magazine the day before the 18 March Dardanelles Naval Battle.
“Queen Elizabeth enters the Dardanelles.”

It's been a good book for new books! Really looking forward to this one by George Peden, one of my favorite historians: Churchill, Chamberlain and Appeasement. cambridge.org/core/books/chu… @CambridgeUP
