I’m not surprised by the expulsion of the TN 3, but it’s infuriating & demoralizing nonetheless. The hypocrisy and anti-democratic impulses of the TNGOP seem to know no bounds.

This is magnificent.

I was dismayed by several elements of Jay Green's article yesterday for @Current_Pub1, and his treatment toward a collection of serious Christian scholars. @kkdumez's response is fantastic, and anyone who read Jay's piece should read this as well. /1 kristindumez.substack.com/p/…

To his credit, Jay Green's follow-up post at Current acknowledges and apologizes for the poor clarity and slipshod framing of scholars, but, notably, still does not provide specific rationale/evidence for the framing, nor engage their work or arguments. /4

Apparently further posts/responses are coming, though I suspect most readers of Jay's original piece are not Current subscribers, and won't be able to read the paywalled/limited-free follow-ups. That's deeply unfortunate. /5
Final thoughts (at least for now) on the Hugh Freeze hire/situation: 1. I hate this for so many people. Mostly for women like @chelsandrews and others, for whom the process has both resurrected old hurts/abuses and created a host of new ones. /1

This process has been illuminating, particularly in seeing the ways in which so many staff, media, and individuals have either stood up for consistency in ethic and integrity... or blithely ignored those values. The disparity in those responses has been disheartening, at best.

My love for Auburn continues unabated, and I hope for eventual rectification, whether thru circumstance or judgment. But I can't be complicit in the compromising of values I deem core to my identity as a Christian, as a husband & father, as a scholar, and as an Auburn alum. /fin

This is an embarrassment and a morally bankrupt decision. I’m extremely disappointed in @JohnCohenAD and my alma mater.

Someone needs to write a cultural history of how the word "novel" came to be a synonym for "book."

I’m as proud an AU alum as there is, but I will root for Auburn to lose every game that Freeze is coach until he is fired, if this happens. The same as I did with my beloved Jags under Urban. @JohnCohenAD, please, for all dignity and morality, do not let this happen.
Sources: Auburn has been in discussion with Hugh Freeze for weeks about him becoming Auburn's next coach. They won't make a formal offer until after the Iron Bowl, but they've informally discussed contract and numbers with him for more than week.

And I say this as one who isn’t at all sold on Caddy as HC. But I would take a mediocre coach or unproven sentimental hire any day over selling out for fauxvangelical hypocrisy. Besides Art Briles and perhaps Urban, I can’t think of anyone I’d oppose more than Hugh.

I approve this hermeneutic.
