While community members are often perceived as holding uniform positions on social and political issues, white evangelicalism hosts prominent voices urging appropriate responses to sexual abuse, domestic violence, and related traumas. Check out @ProfTJG's timely study, below.

We also love this cover (and the mural itself)! UAP's own Design and Production Manager Michele Myatt Quinn designed the jacket. You can order the beautiful (and important) book here! uapress.ua.edu/product/Clima…
Love the way @UnivofALPress graphic designers have folded Adriana Garcia’s epic San Antonio mural across the spine. Wow. 🤩 ❤️ 🙏

Today, I paid over $1000 out of pocket for my miscarriage. They didn't tell me it would cost so much to lose a baby. Here are other things they don't tell you about miscarriages. A thread based on my experience. CW: miscarriage & infertility.

Today, SBC messengers voted to conduct a convention-wide audit of abuse and mishandling, and also to investigate the actions of convention leaders related to sexual abuse. It's a critical step, but what what I want you to really see, is what it took to get here:

Let me be blunt. When you functionally treat complementarianism—a doctrine of MAN—as if it belongs among the matters of 1st importance, yea, as a litmus test for where one stands on inerrancy & authority of Scripture, you are the ones who have misused Scripture. You went too far.

I don't like, regret, all the conversations I'm having today about this piece. But also hot damn it's still so raw for me, and all I feel like doing is cancelling all my meetings today and CRYING over how much hurt was done (in the name of Jesus) to so many precious humans.
1. If you’re curious about why I’m so mad about Christian stuff all the time this is a pretty good explanation 2. Longform journalism slaps this has so much research in it including some controversies even I didn’t know about rollingstone.com/culture/cul…

The current state of American Evangelicalism is what we get when the gospel is reduced to an entrance exam instead of a whole way of living, serving, loving & self-giving. The point of discipleship & Bible study is to grow in relationship with Christ and in resemblance to Christ.

Going through old notes and found this, which I wrote last summer while moving... Kelly's Life Principles (which I think I still stand behind):

1/ Rape is the easiest violent crime to get away with. I’ve spent nearly a year researching why for @TheAtlantic—talking with victims, police, prosecutors, and researchers. Here’s what I found. theatlantic.com/magazine/arc…

Should you ever, like John Wesley, find your heart “strangely warmed” by the Spirit, do not worry. You have myriads of fellow Christians on stand by with ice buckets.

Please read the thread in full, and hear what is being said. After the firestorm regarding @BethMooreLPM teaching in a Sunday (while affirming the complimentarian position that women are not elders), the article below bears a repost, and consideration. houstonchronicle.com/news/ho…

On this “new” controversy going on in the @SouthernBaptist convention: You can’t allow someone as gifted as @BethMooreLPM to preach to an entire generation of college students at @passion268 and expect them as adults to ignore the clear work of the Spirit on her ministry.

Still thinking about this lecture’s discussion of “the spirituality of the law” and curious if that helps explain current evangelicalism’s obsession with the enneagram...
