opinion piece on why i feel EFC need to go back to the DOF model
acknowledging tough challenges from the summer, alongside explaining why i personally feel the committee approach needs to be switched already

Learning curve for Dowman, welcome to menās game playing against full blooded league two players š
Tackles very strong but fair, lad kicks out & in todayās game you kick out you get sent off!
Makes the waves he is, youāre going to come across rough treatment at times!
Canāt believe there is pushback on a player kicking out at someone on the floor being a red card
Make the kick out action making significant contact or not itās a red card š
Ridiculous
Player kicks out at your teammate this happens
Heās 16, heās playing for the first team & will be treated as such! Itās a cup game not pre season!!!
Just a learning curve for him!
That tackle meant to hurt Dowman.
He won the ball very cleanly and tough. Thatās fair.
But the scissor isnāt and if Dowmans leg gets stuck in the ground, that can be very serious.
He meant to stick one on Dowman. So itās fair game for Dowman to react. And he didnāt react dangerously or kick. Itās more a shove with his leg.
Then a pathetic reaction from the Fleetwood players tbh. What bullies do. Instigate, pick on the little one, then cry wolf when thereās a reaction.
No common sense used here.
So deserved, incredible striker but also a footballer who can do it all
Also, as a CF, is there anyone better to be handing you over the Ballon Dāor than THE Ronaldo?
I donāt really put much stock in the Ballon Dāor
However I do think whoever wins out of Kane, Mbappe & Yamal deserves it
All 3 had outstanding years, mattered of when not if for Lamine Yamal
I think it would be great for Harry Kane to win it though
Me personally, I canāt get behind EFC fans demanding change & to put sentimentality behind us, but then want Lee Carsley in what would be his first club job ever at 52yrs old
Itās not this adventurous apt everyone seemingly wants, Iād say itās just pure sentiment
Just my view

Everton Wingers have scored 9 goals total since the start of last season. 7 in open play. Itās 2026 we cant solely blame our Striker for lack of goalsā¦.
I think reality is, as many have said
Everton are just stuck now until ownership is sorted
Manager is underperforming, but so are majority of the squad.
Sad truth is just about getting by until new owners come in, whilst
Hoping theyāre the right ones.
Comes from the top
Recruitment has been really poor at Everton for years & this committee type leadership has shown no signs of it stopping
New owners & a proper footballing set up is absolutely needed.
With every passing game you watch Everton
You wonder how on earth Folarin Balogun would have handled playing in a striker role like this so isolated š
Evertonās midfield problems mapped out perfectly there, even if it is a scenario of circumstance
Midfielder who is most tasked to be sat a bit deeper, is pressing the CB
EFC press bypassed easily & Declan rice is beyond the whole midfield 3
Really poor
More I think about it, I think Utd got the idea right of Amorim starting a project, just the tactical stubbornness wasnāt right
I think a Nagelsmann appointment whilst being open in communication on a 2-3yr plan would be something to look at
Whether that would be acceptable š¤·š¼āāļø
Man Utd problems go beyond managers
Howe/Nagelsmann will inevitably be linked, but Utd are left with an imbalanced squad built around different managers coming/going
At some point, they need to identify a long-term footballing identity, not based on leaping manager to manager
Como under FĆ bregas are a loose example of this. They identified opportunities at clubs like Real Madrid, where talented youngsters have limited first-team space
EFC should be looking to exploit that similar market, there real value in giving these type players a platform.

Squad harmony isn't about how many good players you have.
It's about whether the ones not playing believe the process is fair.
Three coaches showed three signals a director can look for.
Roles explained in advance. Mikel Arteta on Myles Lewis-Skelly, per @Arsenal "We always made him aware... to be prepared and to understand the role." On Jurrien Timber and Ben White, competing for one shirt: "when somebody plays, the other one is there to support him."
Credit for the player who waited. @Wolves Cesar Peixoto after a win at Burnley: "it's a victory for the whole squad." On Tawanda Chirewa: "he works well and he's waited for his opportunity."
Selection explained openly. @MFKKarvina Roman West, after beating Dukla Praha in a game framed as the fight for first place in the Czech second tier, per DenĆk: "nobody can say they didn't get a chance". This from a coach who described a squad that had fallen apart.
When this applies: heavy fixture lists, bigger squads, any rebuild. More squad players means more who can drift. A coach who does none of the three needs a bigger budget, because unhappy squad players become sales at a discount.
Watch out for:
- Versatility sold as opportunity, then no minutes.
- Two signings for one position whose personalities can't share it.
- Assuming a quiet bench is a happy one.
Bench checklist:
1. Ask coaching candidates how they keep non-starters invested.
2. Recruit position pairs, not just positions. Check character in references.
3. Track squad players' minutes and mood.
4. Expect role changes explained before the game.
5. In a rebuild, value transparent selection as highly as tactics.
What would your fourth-choice midfielder say about how your coach picks the team?
this is the best way i've seen it put
i like Moyes, he has his faults & can be frustrating, but he is what he is & won't change at this point
does what it says on the tin & he been in the game long enough for everyone to know what you're getting, so easier to acknowledge that.
Every season, EFC fans point to Brighton/Brentford as examples of how a modern club should operate & wish for similar
it all comes back to identity, EFC have lacked solidly planned direction, amongst identity crisis for years
It starts at the top! What do Everton want to be?
