For 10 years, Mala Vello, a native from Port Dickson, was trapped after following her Nepali partner back to his home country.
With her passport withheld, she was subjected to beatings, starvation, and constant threats of gang rape if she tried to go to the police.

According to this survey carried out by @IDWFED and @ProjectLiber8, only 17% of migrant domestic workers in Malaysia get a weekly rest day. Most - 51% - get a day off once a month. This is despite the standard contract stipulating a weekly day off.

#NSTnation The Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act (Atipsom) 2007 may be reviewed to give it more bite by including "attempts of trafficking". This will allow it to be used to prosecute human trafficking syndicates caught halfway through their operations.
