"If people cared – I mean, really cared – there wouldn’t be a Beijing Olympics. But they don’t care.
"They care enough to say something, though that’s a different sort of caring. That’s caring about appearing to care."
Heck of a column by Cathal Kelly.

All five - 99, 66, Stastny, Bossy, and Kurri - got their first 600 in a 12 year window (77-89) where the NHL was at its offensive peak.
30 years on, McDavid shows up and joins them while there are 20% fewer goals available. Appreciate him while we get the chance to see him daily
Connor McDavid has dazzled, dangled and left us speechless countless times on his way to 600 career NHL points.
His 421 games required to reach the milestone bests Sidney Crosby (430 GP) for the fewest by any active player. #NHLStats: media.nhl.com/public/news/15…

More than 100 former CHL players have joined a concussion lawsuit vs Canada's 3 major-junior hockey leagues, a lawyer tells me.
Some former players say they weren't given medical attention after brain injuries & they still suffer from long-term effects.

Tonight on @SportsCentre & @TSNHockey, you’ll hear from the mother of “John Doe 2,” the former high school hockey player sexually assaulted in 2013 by Brad Aldrich.
She’ll share how the abuse has affected her son & offer her reaction to Gary Bettman's comments on the scandal.

The NHLPA has already said it failed Kyle Beach.
The PA will now have to do investigation into how that happened without an interview with the former Chicago Blackhawk.
Kyle talked to Jenner & Block investigators. His lawyer tells me she won't ok his participation in NHLPA probe.

Spoke today to sports marketing exec who told me multiple sponsors have "put the NHL on notice" to improve response to Blackhawks abuse scandal.
NHL brand significantly tarnished over past week, exec says, adding some sponsors unhappy with league's crisis management.

When Steve Montador died suddenly at 35 years of age, the Montador family received condolences from the teams that Steve played for in the NHL. The Montadors never received any condolences from Gary Bettman. Steve’s brain was later found to have CTE.

"... I can only say that I’m here for Kyle, and what he went through. I believe in him, and I support him, and every victim out there.”
Well done piece by @dfeschuk about Brent Sopel (@brent_sopel), one of the rare good guys in the Blackhawks scandal.

Must Watch Very Powerful.
“In the entire history of mankind there has never been a political elite sincerely concerned about the wellbeing of regular people. What makes any of us think that it is different now. - Christine Anderson European Parliament.”

If I was talking to NHL players today, I'd ask how they would feel about hoisting/drinking from the Stanley Cup knowing it features the name of a convicted sexual predator who has preyed on one of their own.
(NHL won't respond to my questions about Aldrich's name on the Cup.)

Frederick Anderson, during his time in Toronto, was in front of one of the worst defences in hockey and was left on his own most nights. The second his body broke down, Leafs cut him lose. Anderson is 5-0 with Carolina.

$103,922 fine for businesses who allow unvaccinated customers.
So after being forced close for 300 days, we reopen with no Oct funding, capacity limits, we’re expected to fire unvaxxed staff & pay to rehire & ask for customer medical records against privacy laws or get fined?!
