I have been holding my tongue about something that happened during the Ohio gubernatorial race. I refused to speak while the election was underway because I did not want my words mistaken for an attempt to influence anyone’s vote. But now that the election is over, I have something to say. For nearly twenty years, my ministry has taken me among the homeless, the abused, the exploited, and the forgotten. I have sat with victims of sexual violence and witnessed the lifelong wounds of childhood trauma. What Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign did to Amy Acton was among the most morally repulsive things I have witnessed in American politics. They took a woman whose stepfather was indicted for raping her when she was twelve years old and featured her mother, from whom she had been estranged for nearly fifty years, in a political advertisement attacking her credibility. The advertisement challenged Acton’s account of her childhood without mentioning the sexual abuse allegations or the circumstances of that estrangement. When people expressed their horror, the campaign defended it. Imagine examining another person’s childhood suffering and fractured family relationships, then deciding those wounds might help win an election. Anyone who has worked with survivors of childhood sexual abuse understands the painful realities of denial, betrayal, shame, and estrangement. A child growing into a successful adult does not erase what happened. Nor does a parent’s denial make that suffering disappear. I find it equally disturbing that an elderly mother, whom Acton herself described as unwell, was brought into this spectacle. Whatever her own struggles or responsibility for the past, exploiting that fractured relationship was grotesque. To everyone who defended this, consider the message you sent to survivors. To the young woman whose family refuses to believe her. To the man who has carried the shame of childhood abuse for forty years. To the frightened child who has yet to tell anyone. What did you teach them about the value of their suffering? I am a priest. I believe in repentance, forgiveness, and redemption. But none of those things requires me to pretend that deliberate cruelty is anything less than a grave moral failure. Your political allegiance does not absolve you of moral responsibility. You do not get to set aside your conscience during an election and retrieve it afterward. If your loyalty requires you to defend the exploitation of a childhood sexual abuse survivor, your loyalty has become an idol. And if your conscience cannot recognize the wrong here, examine what political tribalism has done to it. This is not about Republicans or Democrats. We have a choice as a people: continue excusing cruelty from our preferred political camp, or summon the courage to condemn it wherever it appears. Amy Acton deserved better. Every survivor who watched this unfold deserved better. And God help us if we have reached the point where winning an election matters more than protecting the dignity of a wounded human being.

This tweet has long since been deleted by its author. I'm posting it as a source for anyone should they need it. It should remind us that malignant megalomaniacs often travel in the same nefarious circles but can turn on each other. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Trump is coming after anyone who dares stand up to him. He is a lawless president terrified of losing his grip on power. He must be stopped — VOTE!

My gut tells me that this is one election where which candidate spends the most amount of money won't matter much at all.

It's hard for me to believe that, at a time when the Russians continue to bring misery and destruction to the people of Ukraine, we would even consider giving them an economic lifeline by buying their diesel fuel. This has to stop.

Personally, I love hearing Steve Bannon say it. I love hearing Mike Johnson say it. And today, Bannon said it AGAIN - bless his decrepit heart! I love it when ANY of the sociopathic Trump acolytes and ideologs allege that if they lose the midterms, every one of them will be investigated and face accountability, multiple cabinet members will be impeached, the grift uncovered and ended, and civil suits filed, too. THAT is EXACTLY what the majority of America NEEDS to hear. It certainly motivates the shit out of me.

Trump didn't do all this damage on his own. He had help from the entire Republican Party. Make all of them pay at the ballot box on November 3rd.

You’re goddamn right.
Steve Bannon issues warning to voters if they vote for Democrats in the midterms: “I think you’ll see Bobby Kennedy impeached, I’ll think you see Pete Hegseth impeached. I think you’ll see subpoenas flying every day. They will look to destroy President Trump, and we’ll be bogged down for two years.”

Please stop saying “this can’t happen in America.” It IS happening in America. And the only way it STOPS happening in America is if Trump & Republicans lose in November. That’s it. And that’s just step one.

When all this is over, @realDonaldTrump will be remembered as the greatest traitor to America in its history. Children in school will learn of his treachery as a warning to future generations. People will spit on the ground when they hear his name. His works will be torn down, one and all.

This isn’t apocalyptic. It’s just math. 10-year treasury at 6%. $40 trillion in debt. Do the math. That’s $2.4 trillion in annual interest payments. Larger than the entire Social Security disbursement. You cannot sustain that. Here’s the solution: just going back to the Clinton tax rates and making a few adjustments, you could save $10 to $12 trillion in deficit spending over the next decade and get this thing under control. No Republican is going to do that. Trump isn’t going to do that. And when Trump leaves office, he will be personally responsible for 42% of all the national debt in American history.

The Republican Party is so devoid of value and messaging that it blows my mind. They've got NOTHING! I understand they've sold their souls at the altar of narcissistic sociopathy. But here we are, approaching a big election, and there's zero positivity emanating from them. Their ENTIRE message it to impugn Dems and do it cartoonishly - Dems are communists, Dems will open the border, Dems want Sharia Law, Dems want trans for everyone, if you elect Dems we'll go into a depression, blah, blah, and f*cking blah. What about this amazes me? Let me add context: We the People, collectively, ALL of us - Red, Blue, and In-Between - want much of the same things: a better life; good health coverage; less disease; jobs; roads; schools; and to smile, love, and laugh. In our government, we want a louder voice; a fairer share; a living wage; social services; liberty; and the ability to pursue happiness. In all these areas, there is a commonality of interest. ALL these things are addressed by Dems, in every state and municipality, every day. NONE of these things are addressed by Republicans. It's all fearmongering, mudslinging, and gaslighting. And it's all in service of fraud, grift, and cover-ups. They need to be rebuked and flattened in November.

He was never a builder. His grades were never good. Most of his business ventures failed. He squandered his massive inheritance. His pathology is highly aberrant and severely malignant. His cognitive health is poor, and worsening. His physical health is in visible decline. And The Apprentice was only a TV show. He is and has always been a conman, fraudster, and career criminal. He is arguably the biggest pathological liar in human history. He botched a pandemic, and as we were reminded today - he fomented an insurrection and stole classified documents. He has committed every form of fraud that is known, and many forms of abuse. On that last point, he is all over the Epstein files. It's high time for more Republicans to rouse, go outside their echo chamber, choose fact over feeling, and information over validation. Nobody should be spending their lives in service to a world view that eschews empathy and facilitates untrustworthiness and grift. Nobody should be clamoring to prop up a meaningless myth that benefits a precious few and harms everyone else.

I can’t wait to see @seanhannity and all the others on the right lose their shit when the next Democratic president bans Fox News, Newsmax, etc from the White House and says, “If you are going to engage in what’s effectively far-right propaganda, why would a Democratic White House give you special access?”
