With deep sorrow, the Ventura County Fire Department announces the line of duty death of Engineer Thomas “Tommy” James Daniel Minadeo at the age of 32.
Engineer Minadeo dedicated his life to serving and protecting the community with unwavering commitment, professionalism, and heart. His bravery, dedication, and kindness left an indelible mark on those he worked alongside and the countless lives he touched.
Minadeo joined the Ventura County Fire Department as a fire control worker in 2015. In 2017, he was hired as a firefighter, graduating from Academy 54. He was assigned to Truck 54 in Camarillo, Station 26 in Santa Paula, Station 31 in Thousand Oaks, Station 51 in El Rio, Station 55 in Camarillo and Station 53 in Port Hueneme. Tommy promoted to engineer in 2022 and served his final assignment at Station 45 in Simi Valley.
Minadeo was diagnosed with job-related cancer last October and had been undergoing treatment.
“Tommy was part of our fire family for nearly 10 years, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with us in response to our community’s public safety needs,” Fire Chief Dustin Gardner said. “We now stand with Tommy’s family in grieving his passing and supporting each other.”

The Mountain Fire remains at 19,904 acres and is 98% contained. 100% containment is anticipated tomorrow and this will be the final update on the fire.
Today, crews continued tactical patrols and community outreach efforts.
A Local Assistance Center (LAC) is located at the Ventura County Office of Education, 5100 Adolfo Rd in Camarillo. The LAC will be open Monday - Saturday from 9am to 7pm.
VCFD’s Public Information Center at Fire Station 55, 403 Valley Vista Drive in Camarillo will be open from 8am to 6pm tomorrow and staffed with Firefighters and Fire Prevention staff to help support community needs.

#potreroincident VCFD in collaboration with Oxnard Fire, Oxnard PD, and Ventura County Sheriff successfully located and rescued an adult male trapped in a 36” drain pipe this evening. Utilizing the latest in robot technology, the Oxnard Police Department pinpointed the victim's location, allowing our Urban Search and Rescue teams to safely extricate the individual. The patient is being transported to a local hospital in stable condition for further evaluation.

#Apachefire; The fire is estimated at 800 acres and 0% containment. Fire location is in Apache Canyon east of Hwy 33 and approximately 30 miles NE of Ojai. 5 residences in Apache Canyon are threatened. VCFD is in unified command with USFS and supporting the fire with approximately 50 firefighters including 5 Type-3 engines, a water tender, 1 hand crew and our Firehawk helicopter. Outside California, ALERTWest partners with other universities and stakeholders to operate hundreds more cameras in neighboring states, with the network constantly expanding. It’s an honor to partner with these two organizations to provide you with the most actionable wildfire information available.
Once you've updated your app, open the ‘Layers’ drawer found in the top right hand corner of your map and select ‘Live Wildfire Cameras’. When you zoom in you will see the cameras appear. Clicking on one allows you to view in real-time as well as a 6-hour time-lapse.

#WoodFire; Almost 100 FF’s have extinguished a fire in a commercial structure in Camarillo off Veldulera St. The main body of the fire was held in a vehicle that was parked inside the structure. There is smoke and water damage in the main unit and adjacent unit. All occupants were out of the structure and no injuries have been reported. FF’s will remain on scene for about an hour ensuring all heat is out and to investigate the cause of this fire.

Over 125 #VCFD #FF are on scene battling the Post Fire. The fire has entered Ventura County and has consumed about 2,000 acres of wilderness in the south eastern portion of the Las Padres National Forest, south of Hungry Valley. The overall Post fire is 2% contained and was measured at 12,265 acres via sensory aircraft. Our VCFD crews continue attacking the fire from both the air and the ground. #BroadviewFire; Fire has been knocked down at 1700 and contained to the garage. Off duty Oxnard Firefighter was on scene early and assisted the home owners out of the house and ensured the door between the garage and house was closed.
