Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week, 5-11th of Feb-24. #ItsNotOk that I was sexually abused in my family home by someone I loved, who should have kept me safe. #ItsNotOk that I was raped. #ItsNotOk my teacher saw signs and turned away. #ItsNotOk I was not appropriately signposted by any professional who crossed paths with me, until middle age. #ItsNotOk my distress was pathologised. #ItsNotOk my trauma response was called a chemical imbalance of the brain. #ItsNotOk I was medicated unnecessarily for over ten years of my life. #ItsNotOk this medication was forced upon me at times - that I had no choice. #ItsNotOk I was threatened with section if I did not comply. #ItsNotOk I was told (incorrectly) by a psychiatrist I’d never recover or live without community support #ItsNotOk there is no justice. #ItsNotOk he’s lives his life with no consequence and I have to change my identity to remain safe. #ItsNotOk my body kept the score my skin is scarred my education was cut short my career path impacted that life was delayed. #ItsNotOk I navigate motherhood alone, with little support or understanding for the difficult emotions that arise at times. #ItsNotOk to sleep with a bolt on my bedroom door because it feels safer that way, in a household of people who are not a risk to me. #ItsNotOk there are an estimated 11 million adults in the U.K. who have suffered Child Sexual Abuse. #ItsNotOk24 None of this is ok. #childsexualabuse #CSA #TheFlyingChildStory #ACautionaryTale #ACautionaryFairyTale
