The Lord's Day is not a doctrine to be downplayed, or a burden to be endured, but a blessing to be enjoyed. - reflection from yesterday's discussion of the fourth commandment in the Pastoral and Social Ethics class at @RTSJackson

A wonderful Lord's Day at Eastern Heights Presbyterian Church with @GPTSeminary President Emeritus Joseph A. Pipa preaching both services. And a joint evening worship service with the saints from three other Presbyterian congregations. Such glorious preaching and singing!

Britain once threatened war with its oldest friend. 🇬🇧 A friendship sealed at Windsor in 1386. Still in force today. 🤝 In 1839 Britain told Portugal: stop shipping human beings. Or the Royal Navy will stop you. ⚓ Off East Africa, HMS Modeste chased a slave ship for nearly nine hours. 695 people stepped onto a jetty at Cape Town. Never sold. 🕊️ They teach you the ships that carried people. Not the ones that stopped them. Watch the full story. 🎥

Some people didn't like @TexasPreacher's comments on flowers and worship and worship spaces. Here he has more to say and explains why he said it.
Talked about flowers, stained glass windows, and more with @RFBWCF, hope it's helpful

Peter Thiel is "married" to a man.
Another interesting night of people watching outside the last Anti-Christ lecture by tech billionaire Peter Thiel, including some of the biggest names from Tennessee's world of Christian nationalism. 1/2

There are three essentials to pursuing church-planting that will promote faithfulness and renewal in the PCA: 1) Missional Clarity 2) Proactive Integrity 3) Compelling Leadership Check out the article on @PCAPolity for further elaboration on these three essentials.
If the PCA is going to become a more vital church-planting body in the future, what is it going to take? What needs to characterize our church-planting efforts? Three essentials must mark our efforts: missional clarity, proactive integrity, and compelling leadership. Link below

I am so pleased & excited for @ReformTheoSem to have the fmr Pres of @GroveCtyCollege. McNulty was instrumental in revitalizing GCC's commitment to its historic principles, in the recruiting of Carl Trueman to the faculty, and in major campus upgrades. Well done, @LigonDuncan!
RTS is pleased to welcome Paul J. McNulty to our Board of Trustees. The former Grove City College president and 32nd U.S. Deputy Attorney General brings decades of leadership in Christian higher education and public service. Read More

How many of the men around this table are still "in the fight" (as @HarryLReeder3 used to say). Wise question from @LigonDuncan and great answer from Carl Trueman (who has blocked me on all social media for some reason).
Carl Trueman on the dangers of the celebrity pastor. This is from 10 years ago now, but is still relevant. It may not be as critical of an issue as it was at the height of the YRR movement and the conference circuits, but there still are individuals who command significant influence — most of their sway these days just comes from podcasts, social media, YouTube, and maybe books, as opposed to the conference circuit model from before. And it’s good that men are gifted and influential, but as Trueman points out, there are dangers in that come with that. Trueman highlights two main issues:  - an aspirational model of ministry that is increasingly nothing like what aspiring ministers are actually going to experience in ministry - worldly categories of success instead of faithful categories of success He said he remembers asking students at Westminster Theological Seminary: “Who's been the most influential preacher in your life?” He said, “Almost never do they actually say, ‘Well, it's the man who preaches at my home church.’” Lots to chew on from this clip, but it’s an issue that hasn’t gone away.
