The Empire never died.
The British Empire is still with us, in the UK’s island outposts and military bases, in the plunder of other countries’ resources, and in UK officials’ imperial mindset.

True. To the creditor-rentier parasites, recessions are useful bankruptcy auctions. Make the public so poor and indebted they have to sell off their assets for next to nothing. Eventually the parasites own everything essential and the public have to rent it all back. Cinch!
Raising interest rates to stop the private sector from spending £ will result in a recession.
The national debt will increase - profiting the bond markets with interest payments.
Then government austerity measures cut in because they’ll claim there isn’t enough “tax payers money” to fund public services.
The banksters then swoop to invest in care homes, the NHS and even council services like waste collections… paid for by increased council taxes.
So it goes like this
Energy Prices £⬆️
Energy Company Profits £⬆️
Household Finances £⬇️
Bond Market Investors £⬆️
(from BoE interest and deals to run public services)
Council Taxes £⬆️
Government Spending ⬇️
U.K. Economy ⬇️

native Americans only get national media attention as objects of hatred, mockery and derision, with the very few who even just rhetorically object to gleefully celebrating their genocide being browbeaten to recant in record time lest they be defined as "weird fanatics". Meanwhile conservative sub-humans like Matt Walsh and Ben Shapiro produce epic based "series" gloating in their mass murder and rape and saying how it was not only morally justified but necessary, and it gets zero attention.

In my ongoing critique of usury I don't want anyone to think private moneylending is entirely costless. However, we can divide the costs into two categories.
The first category covers obvious real costs. The second category covers what we might call hypothetical implicit bollocks we've just made up as potential risks but we want more interest to line our pockets otherwise you can f*ck off and do without the money and we'll find some other mug to lend it to costs.
1. Real Costs
Adminstrative costs such as employee salaries, tech and buildings, and inflation that causes a reduction in the repayment's purchasing power over time. So some (usually single-figure) interest payment can be justified in reality.
2. Hypothetical Implicit Bollocks Costs
Opportunity costs such as returns lost by not investing in the next best option, the 'risk of default' cost demanding a premium, the cost of locking up cash and losing flexibility, which demands a liquidity premium, and, most nebulous of all, compensation for the sheer uncertainty of what might happen over time. Oh, diddums. Justifiable? You decide.

An alliance of leftwing European political parties co-founded by former Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis has lost access to its bank account.
The Democracy in Europe Movement 2025 (DiEM25) said on Tuesday that its account was “closed suddenly and without warning” on 8 October, and the group has lost access to tens of thousands of euros.
The organisation has not named the bank, citing legal reasons, but spokesperson Erik Edman said the account was held in Belgium.
“We asked the bank for an explanation and requested an extension,” he told Novara Media. “It declined to explain its decision and refused the extension.”
He said DiEM25 was unable to confirm “whether its decision was politically motivated”.
However, he added, “through conversations with other organisations in Belgium, we have heard accounts suggesting a worrying pattern in which progressive political organisations appear to have been disproportionately affected by debanking.”
The bank account was where DiEM25 supporters had been sending small monthly donations. Edman said it has two staff members and an office in Belgium and is at risk of being unable to pay salaries, social security contributions and rent there.
The group has started an emergency fundraiser to cover its immediate costs and says it is looking for a new bank in Belgium.
“Why did they do it?” Varoufakis, who is also DiEM25’s secretary general, said in a video statement. “You may say [it’s because] we are insufficiently supportive of the oligarchy, of genocide… but of course we couldn’t possibly comment.”
Varoufakis served as an MP for DiEM25’s Greek offshoot, Mera25, between 2019 and 2023. He founded DiEM25 with Croatian philosopher and political activist Srećko Horvat in 2016. The 192,000-member organisation also has parties in Germany, Italy and the Netherlands.
In February, Varoufakis was indicted in Greece after saying on a podcast that he had taken ecstasy over 36 years ago in Australia. Mera25 described the prosecution as politically motivated, saying Greece's judiciary was going after “whoever refuses to bend the knee”.

Here is the Covid debate in a nutshell....
On one side you have "Covid is dangerous" backed by 500,000 peer reviewed publications showing the damage Covid causes, coupled with the reality that more people are sick more often, for longer, more severely.
On the other side you have, "Covid is mild", backed by, "the government said so", with zero proof, publications, or even real world evidence to show it to be true.
There really is no debate, it's just facts vs fiction at this point, and the fiction is winning because its less work and more comfortable.
Policy should match the reality.

It was Lady Dorrian who erred by granting this order in the first place when it is entirely obvious to those who were directly involved that the complainants lied and perjured themselves during Alex Salmond's trial.
The damage they have done to actual victims of sexual assault is incalculable but very obviously serious and far reaching.
The key complainants should be in jail alongside fallguy Murrell.
Scotland will remain a basketcase whilst this level of corruption continues and the senior judiciary behave as a protection racket for those, in senior positions of power - and those who influence those in power - who are actually guilty.
This is a fascinating case

The irony of mocking people for worrying about “shared air” while you make a living working remotely is apparently lost on you.
Millions of people don’t have that luxury. They share air in classrooms, hospitals, offices, and workplaces every fucking day.
They SHOULD be concerned about it.
You get to avoid the risks while ridiculing people trying to protect themselves and their families.

Historians estimate that hundreds of thousands to around 2 million German women and girls were victims of sexual violence and mass rapes committed by Allied soldiers at the end of and immediately following World War II in Europe....
After Germany's defeat in World War II, one of the largest waves of rape in human history took place. The Allies raped 2 million women. The Allied soldiers did not hesitate to execute any woman who refused to submit to their demands. Until the mid-1950s, Germany acceptedthe registration of 37,000 children under their mother's surname.
The perpetrators of these crimes are the very ones who now lecture us on human rights and women's rights!
According to historian William Hitchcock, in many cases, The women were victims of repeated rapes, some having been raped between 60 and 70 times, with nearly 10,000 women dying as a result of these rapes..
When Yugoslav politician Milovan Djilas complained about rapes in Yugoslavia, Stalin reportedly replied that he shouldto understand that a soldier who had traveled thousands of kilometers amidst blood, fire, and death wanted to have fun with a woman or hang out for a while".
Historian Geoffrey Roberts wrote that the Red Army raped women in every country it crossed, but primarily in Austria and Germany: 70,000 to 100,000 rapes in Vienna, and "hundreds of thousands" of rapes in Germany He mentions that the German army may have committed tens of thousands of rapes on the Eastern Front, but that murder was their typical crime.
Carol Huntington wrote that The American soldiers who raped German women and then left them gifts of food may have rationalized their actions.seeing it as prostitution rather than rape. Referring to the work of a Japanese historian, she wrote that Japanese women who asked for food "were raped and sometimes the soldiers left food for these women."
One of the British army chaplains accompanying the troops stated that there was "a large number of ongoing rapesHe added that Those who suffer [from rape]
perhaps deserve it".
The French forcesparticipated in the invasion of Germany, and an occupation zone in Germany was assigned to France. Perry Biddiscombe cites estimates from the original survey that French forces had committed "385 rapes in several locations".

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The overwhelming majority of these rapes were committed by Soviet Red Army troops, not Western Allied forces. Historians estimate hundreds of thousands to two million victims by Soviets versus far lower numbers for US, British and French troops.

What happened with that viral Red Baron Pizza worker is not a feel-good story, it's a feel-bad story. Everything about it says horrible things about where our society is headed.
Some obnoxious prick films a guy working his fingers to the bone for a "prank" hoping to get social media clicks, and the worker flips out at him because his shitty, abusive job had stretched him a hair's breadth from snapping. The video goes viral because people sympathize with a father shouting at a creepy live-streamer about how his shift was supposed to end an hour ago and he needs to get up at five in the morning to do it all again so his family doesn't get evicted from the home he's struggling to pay for, and then a fundraiser is launched which winds up giving the man half a million dollars.
Sounds like a happy ending, until you look at it. None of the other Red Baron workers are getting fundraisers to help them make ends meet; they're all toiling and suffering along with everyone else in similar socioeconomic positions, just as the man in the video would have been if he hadn't gone viral. Turns out the guy who set up the fundraiser for the Red Baron employee was himself a homeless veteran of the US military, who received his own far less successful fundraiser when this revelation came out. When you zoom out, this is just a story about how incredibly bleak life is for ordinary people in the heart of the US empire.
And yet capitalism proponents have seized on this story as an example of the system working perfectly while portraying it as a victory in their weird culture war theater. Conservative media platforms like The Daily Wire, The New York Post and Barstool Sports have framed the worker as a people's champion standing up to an entitled coastal liberal while working hard for his employer as Judeo-Christian God intended. Red Baron posted on social media that they are part of their employee's "fan club" and that he is their "employee of the month", causing conservative figures like Laura Loomer, Benny Johnson, Kevin Sorbo and Tim Burchett to swoon with approval.
They want you focusing on this one particular instance where it all worked out fine so that you don't think about the exponentially greater number of instances in which it doesn't. Billionaire corporations are exploiting workers around the world for appallingly meager wages, causing a combined amount of suffering too vast for the human mind to comprehend. People resonated with that worker pouring his heart out into that click slut's Meta glasses because so many of us have been there and know what it's like to be stretched to the breaking point just trying to feed your kids.
The capitalist class squeezes the life out of workers, and then they manipulate working people's thoughts at mass scale so they don't understand what's happening to them. They tell them their suffering is because of immigrants, or welfare recipients, or an amorphous cabal of "elites" who always conveniently belong exclusively to the opposite political party. They feed them media convincing them that the system is working fine and that if they can't hack it it's because something is wrong with them. They offer them the occasional "feel-good" viral story about someone who got lucky, like feudal serfs listening to fairy tales imagining that they too might one day marry a prince or discover that they are a member of the royal family who was lost at birth.
They pour all this energy into convincing workers to accept the status quo because they are at all times acutely aware that as soon as the workers stop accepting the status quo, it's over for them. The most under-discussed political reality in the world is that there are a whole lot more people suffering under the status quo than there are people profiting from it, and that the sufferers are fully capable of overturning the status quo by force whenever they decide to.
Our entire society is built around the need to manipulate our attention away from this political reality. All our mainstream culture. All our news media. All our politics. All our education systems. It's all designed to direct our gaze away from the reality that there are a whole lot more of us than there are of them, and that they need us infinitely more than we need them.
They don't want us to look at this reality. They don't want us thinking about it.
But we really, really should.
