What a compliment! Would love others to say this about me one day! For reference, Tom Marchitelli is the founder of Gents Playbook, which outfits over 400+ athletes and celebrities with custom suits. Before his sports fashion business took off, it started as a side hustle. Tom was working a job in corporate finance in New York City, but always had a passion for fashion. He got his start by sourcing some of the best suit materials from England & Italy, perfecting each suits fit, and getting down in the DMs with some of the biggest athletes in the country. Tom’s story is about betting on yourself and turning something you’re better at than everyone else into a thriving business. youtu.be/L_Cpr06_5mY?t=0 @justinsua

Nick Saban makes an important distinction here about the ability to sustain intensity, and its direct relationship to focus, discipline, and consistent performance. A lot of quarterbacks can demonstrate intensity for a week. Preparing for a rival, making their first start, or entering league play can create a heightened sense of urgency. The challenge is maintaining that same standard of preparation week after week, throughout a long season. Intensity is not something a quarterback can manufacture on game day. It is developed through the repetitive discipline of preparation. Every film session, every protection identification, every coverage recognition exercise requires intentional focus, even when the work becomes tedious. That discipline must carry into every snap. Survey the front, identify pressure indicators, assess leverage, confirm the post-snap picture, and execute the progression. Now compound that level of concentration across 60–70 snaps per game, regardless of the score, situation, or result of the previous play. Then repeat that process game after game, week after week. The best quarterbacks are not defined by their ability to occasionally elevate their intensity. They are defined by their ability to sustain it. Consistency in performance is a product of sustained intensity, disciplined preparation, and attention to detail.

Every coach can immediately enhance their life and leadership by answering this one question... If your coaching idol became you for the next 24 hours, what's the first thing they would eliminate in your life and/or leadership?

If you want to get better at something, be specific. Describe the improvement so another person could observe you doing it.

I once watched a basketball coach prepare his team for a tough drill. Before the drill began, he told them, "This drill is going to be new. It will be difficult. You're going to fail a lot. Part of this drill isn't just execution-it's how you respond to failure, mistakes, and the pressure I'm about to put on you." As expected, the drill was tough. Players messed up repeatedly. They made communication errors, grew frustrated, and struggled with the challenge. However, because the coach had warned them beforehand, the team was less frustrated, learned faster, and picked up the drill more effectively than they would have otherwise. This is the power of priming. It’s simply preparing athletes for adversity before it arrives. Before a difficult drill, let the players know it will be hard and that mistakes are expected. Emphasize that the drill isn't just about physical skill, it's designed to build individual and collective resilience. Frame the drill as practice in handling frustration, communicating under pressure, and bouncing back quickly. Remind them that the same adversity will show up in games, and this is the opportunity to get those reps in.

NLCS MVP Jake Bauers shares how letting go of results helped him find a different level of freedom as a competitor. "I think what changed for me this year was I stopped caring about results. I started caring about competing. I started caring about being in the moment and getting out of my own way." Sometimes, the biggest obstacle to performing at your best isn't a lack of preparation or ability. It's the pressure you place on yourself to produce a particular outcome. You become so concerned with what you want to happen that you lose touch with what the moment actually requires. Any performer can unlock a new level when they learn how to be fully invested in the competition without becoming imprisoned by the outcome. 🎥: Fox Sports
