THE VET CALLED HIM A “WALKING MIRACLE” — AND TODAY, SHADOW IS 11! 🎂💙 At just 5 years old, Shadow suddenly collapsed on a normal walk. He had picked up his front paw and yelped, then became slow and wobbly. His head was moving strangely, and before long he couldn’t stand. The first vet thought it could be a slipped disc. The following day, another vet suspected a stroke. An urgent MRI in Bristol confirmed their worst fears. Shadow had suffered a stroke. Because of Covid, his family couldn’t go into the surgery with him. Gary had to carry their 44kg boy inside, and they could only wait and hope. The days that followed were incredibly difficult. Shadow needed daily vet visits, catheters and help with his bowel movements. His family worked tirelessly with him, doing leg exercises and helping him walk every 30–60 minutes. Twice, they were given appointments to say goodbye. Twice, Shadow proved them wrong. ❤️ On the day of his final appointment, the vet gave them one last deadline. If Shadow hadn’t passed urine by 5pm, they would have to let him go. At 3pm… Shadow urinated. The appointment was cancelled. Little by little, he started to stand. Then walk. Then toilet by himself. His recovery continued with physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and endless love at home. Eventually, his vet called him a “walking miracle”. And today, that walking miracle is celebrating his 11th birthday! 🎂🐾💙 Shadow has since survived three strokes, adapted to life without his tail and still wakes up every morning with a smile, ready for another day with his beloved pink unicorn. 🦄 His family truly believe that his incredible will to live, combined with the love and care they gave him, helped him through. 11 years old. Three strokes. Countless challenges. And still smiling. ❤️ Happy 11th birthday, Shadow! 🎂🐾 You really are one very special boy. 💙 #RetiredPoliceDog #PoliceDog #Shadow #GermanShepherd #GSD #RetiredPoliceDogs #WorkingDog #DogHeroes #DogRecovery #WalkingMiracle #HappyBirthdayShadow #WAGS #WAGSRetiredPoliceDogs
