Friends,
My account here, just like other Ukrainian accounts recently, is suffering from severe shadowbanning/pessimization. There has been a sharp drop in reach, as the platform's algorithms quietly remove it from search and recommendations.
My Threads account, which has 25,000 followers, currently gets more reach than my account here on X.
I will remain here and I deeply value our community. But just in case, I want to remind you that I have other platforms: Threads, Bluesky, and Telegram.

‘Don’t forget their names’: the women on Iran’s death row as murderous Islamic dictatorship continues mass executions

There are only three British women who have won the Olympic 800m gold medal:
🇬🇧 Ann Packer (Tokyo 1964 – 2:01.01 WR)
🇬🇧 Kelly Holmes (Athens 2004 – 1:56.38)
🇬🇧 Keely Hodgkinson (Paris 2024 – 1:56.72)
Women first competed in the Olympic 800m at the Amsterdam 1928 Games but the event wasn't held again until Rome 1960.
Packer struck Olympic 800m gold OTD in 1964.

Two women on death row in Iran have recorded audio messages from their prison cells and asked the free world to save their lives. Now I bring their voices to you.
Najmeh Amini is 23. An accounting student. Her crime? A post on social media. The regime calls it insulting the prophet. For one post, they will hang her.
Mahboubeh Shabani is 33. During the protests, she carried wounded demonstrators to the hospital. Her crime? Saving lives. The regime calls it waging war against God. For saving lives, they will hang her.
Let me be honest. Hashtags and tweets alone will not stop these executions. This regime only understands pressure.
So I call on American, European, and world leaders: make these executions your red line. Tie every sanction, every deal, every negotiation to the lives of political prisoners. Demand their release now. Impose real costs for every hanging.
Najmeh Amini and Mahboubeh Shabani must not die for the crime of freedom.
Act now. Before it is too late.

Surely that's just the new government of an independent Highlands & Islands? #HIndy
Replying to @DavidsonMagnus
There is a case for a rationalised Highlands and Islands super quango which pulls together HIE, HIAI, BnG, CNPA, the CC, CMAL, SLC, etc but that’s not being made.
And all of this comes separate to concerns on NHS and local authority centralisation.

Even better, reform the UK energy market so that local generators can sell to their local communities, at a price of their choosing.
@mgshanks assured me yesterday that they're working on it......

This joke aged VERY well.
The numbers have gained one or two zeros since then…
“…and NATO?”
“NATO still hasn’t arrived.”

No doubt that Fluffy is a proud ancestor of @Number10cat
Fluffy of HMS Western Isles had such high standing that he shook paws with 26 admirals, ate dinner off antique china, and slept in the captain's bunk. Fluffy once refused to relinquish his bunk to a visiting admiral, crawling under the sheets and forcing the guest to share the bed. When Fluffy passed away in 1956, he was wrapped in the captain's jacket and buried in a grave marked by his antique dinner plate.

A Falklands War commander has dismissed Argentina’s latest talk of taking the islands as empty bluster, arguing that any attempt to seize them would run into British air power long before it became a landing.
Major General Julian Thompson (legend), who led 3 Commando Brigade in the 1982 campaign and is now 91, told The Sun that Buenos Aires was “just bullshitting as usual.”
His assessment was blunt.
Argentina, he said, would not be able to take the Falklands because “the Air Force will hammer them.”
The Typhoons already stationed in the South Atlantic, he added, would “take care of them.”
They've got history of gobbing off to try and appease their people when their country is in a shit state.
And they're at it again.
The garrison is small by the standards of a major war, but it is nothing like the thin presence Britain had in 1982.
Four RAF Typhoon fighters are permanently based at Mount Pleasant. They sit alongside an infantry company, a Royal Navy patrol ship and Sky Sabre air-defence batteries.
The wider British footprint on the islands is around a thousand military personnel when pilots, engineers and headquarters staff are counted.
The remarks come after Argentine President Javier Milei again pressed Argentina’s claim to the islands it calls the Malvinas, and after Donald Trump suggested the United States might not automatically side with Britain if the dispute turned violent.
Trump linked that hesitation to what he sees as insufficient European backing for his campaign against Iran.
Thompson’s reply was as political as it was military. He said he hoped Trump would not be “stupid enough to take Argentina’s side,” because Russia and China “would love that.”
There is a distinction worth keeping in view.
Milei has talked about sovereignty, oil and sanctions more than about an imminent amphibious assault. British officials and some military sources still describe the Argentine armed forces as limited in training, experience and the ability to project force across several hundred miles of South Atlantic.
Argentina is, however, rebuilding parts of its air force, including second-hand F-16s, which is why the debate keeps returning to whether four Typhoons and a modest garrison are enough if rhetoric hardens into a test of the runway at Mount Pleasant.
Thompson’s point is the one that has shaped British thinking since the war: if the islands are to be held, they have to be held in the air first.
In 1982 Britain had to sail a task force halfway around the world because there was almost nothing on the ground. That is no longer the opening condition.
Whether Britain could still assemble a large naval reinforcement if the first line failed is a separate, and more uncomfortable, question.
The Corps legend's warning was aimed at the first line. If Argentina came, he said, it would be hammered — and the hammer would be the RAF.
