Tune in September 25 to watch the premiere of the all-new EveryDollar!
For 18 months, we鈥檝e been keeping some exciting changes in EveryDollar quiet. But EveryDollar budgeters are seeing such incredible results, $2 billion in financial turnaround!
Culture feeds us a steady diet of what it believes is important. If we're not careful, we can spend years working toward something that ends up meaning nothing to us.
The truth is that money is just a magnifying glass鈥攊t makes you more of who you already are.
If you鈥檙e kind and generous, you鈥檒l be even more kind and generous with money. If you鈥檙e rude and self-centered, you鈥檒l be even more rude and self-centered with money. Money is simply a tool: You get to determine what to do with it.
There's no shame or guilt in a graceful no. The boundaries you put in place now for you, your money, your time, and your energy will only help you in the long run.
6 SIGNS OF FINANCIAL INFIDELITY:
1.) Hiding a purchase intentionally
2.) Getting cash back without telling your spouse
3.) Having a secret savings account
4.) Stashing bills
5.) Opening secret credit cards or new accounts
6.) Playing the dollar-for-dollar game
In the same way that you can鈥檛 expect to get a pass on the hard work, you also can鈥檛 expect your standard of living to automatically be the same as your parents. Radio personality Larry Burkett used to say that couples spend the first five to seven years of their marriage trying to attain the same standard of living as their parents鈥攐nly it took their parents thirty-five years to get there.
If you鈥檙e kind and generous, you鈥檒l be even more kind and generous with money. If you鈥檙e rude and self-centered, you鈥檒l be even more rude and self-centered with money. Money is just a tool and has nothing to do with your identity.
No one has ever become poor by giving. Give away at least some of your money, whether through a tithe, charitable contribution, or gift to a friend in need. Not only does it generate good, but it generates contentment. Giving liberates the soul of the giver. You never walk away feeling badly.
Smart investors keep a long-term perspective. They don鈥檛 stress about how their investments have performed in the past few weeks or what they鈥檒l do in the next couple of months.
Focus on time in the market! You鈥檝e got to choose to be patient and think long term here.
Don't compare your budget friendly lifestyle to people who use a lot of consumer debt. Because it's going to look like they're doing a whole lot better than they actually are.
