Agree, Twitter beefs are silly but let me respond because there's several very important points here. And I hope everyone will read this. For the record: I don't work for @MajorityDems and I am not speaking for anyone but myself. I wouldn't have banned your reporters personally, both because it's not my style and because it's not worth it to make you the victim. But a few things need to be made clear: 1. I have never worked for the party and I have never worked for any candidate. I have worked for MoveOn.org, Media Matters, NARAL, and that very dem establishment organization called Rainforest Action Network. It's all public record. Look it up. I now run projects that build power for overlooked and ignored segments of the electorate in places where's there's little civic infrastructure. David's problem with me is that when I was at NARAL in 2106, we not only endorsed Hillary but I enthusiastically campaigned for her and still do not apologize for it. It was a venal sin in his eyes. He has called me a corporate Dem ever since, with literally no evidence. Just an epithet. 2. Freedom of the press is a crucial American value. It is also only required of governments, for good reaon. Private entities can invite whoever the hell they want to the events they plan, pay for and run. May not be a good look; you may tar their reputation for it, but it does not violate freedom of the press. We routinely barred Lifesite News from private NARAL events. Conflating the two reminds me of right-wingers who claim that effective economic boycotts are a violation of their freedom of speech. It's either a dumb reading on the Constitution or a deliberate obfuscation of the principle to rile up your followers. 3. I have no billionaire donors. I doubt honestly that Sirota has any idea what I have been doing since I left NARAL. He hasn't asked. I don't find him to be curious that way. In my time, I have led many campaigns to get money out of politics. So far, none of them have won. But getting money out of non-profit groups is moving the goal posts. We won healthcare because of private donors, not because we expected ordinary Americans to pony up from their stretched pocket books to entirely fund asymmetrical campaigns against the healthcare industry and big pharma. 4. And this is my big one: If you believe that Majority Dems or any other entity--funded by billionaires or not--can shape the future of the party in two days at once conference, you didn't just witness what happened not even a week ago which was possibly the most distributed, effervescent feat or organizing and power building I have seen in my adult life. But dismissing the legitimacy of a conference where thousands will attend, celebrate and learn just because of who some of the groups funders are doesn't build on that progress. These people work hard for a more just and more democratic future. Let them have joy. There are other parties to attend. I promise the primary season is long and everyone will have their chance to hear more than enough. With that, I am sure everyone has heard plenty from David and I this morning, and I am off to touch grass with the family.
Twitter beefs are silly but let me respond because there’s a very important point here. And I hope everyone will read this. You’re right. This is not about me. It’s about a billionaire group @MajorityDems convening top Democrats to shape the party’s agenda — and trying to block reporters from covering the transactions and deals cut inside the room. I’m the editor of an award-winning news outlet and I am defending my reporters, who are being punished for their widely read reporting on the billionaire funding of @MajorityDems — reporting that has not been factually disputed, and reporting that has been widely cited in other media etc. What Ilyse represents is a part of the Democratic operative class that is desperate to make clear to billionaires that they will serve them — and defend them — and stoop to Trump-style tactics to do that. That’s how these people make their money. They serve donors. It’s literally their business. It’s not all Dem operatives but it is some, and they are making clear that they want to control the 2028 primary, and make sure there is no scrutiny of the process. You can hate me, you can insist like a high schooler that I wasn’t “invited” to your fancy party. But it’s not about me at all. It’s about the attempt to paywall the Democratic presidential primary. That’s what this is — and @LeverNews will continue to report on that, whether these career operatives like it or not.

I have known Chuck Schumer for 16 years. I worked closely with him and his staff when I worked for Harry Reid. I have a lot of respect for him and have also had my differences over the years. The job of leader happens mostly behind the scenes. The traits that make a good leader are not the same as what makes you good at social media, etc. Reid was famous for saying off-message stuff—lord knows how he would have fared in the age of social media. When you’re in the majority, the job is about setting the agenda and passing bills that help people. When you’re in the minority, you’re at the mercy of the majority in terms of the agenda, so the job is mainly to get back in the majority. By that measure, Schumer succeeded wildly on Tuesday. He oversaw the biggest Democratic sweep in the Senate since Watergate, recruiting candidates who fit their states and putting them in position to win states many had written off long ago. He was an early believer in Mississippi, for example. You can litigate this or that decision, and I certainly didn’t agree with them all—but when you step back and look at the big picture there’s simply no way to argue with this historic achievement. To me, the question of whether Schumer deserves to be reelected as leader after the most dominant performance by Senate Democrats in more than half a century is straightforward, and the answer is clearly yes.

The United States, which has all the resources, infrastructure, and historical capacity to maintain measles elimination - is instead bracing to lose its status this coming week. This will be the first time since it gained elimination status 26 years ago.

After watching our leaders downplay measles for months, it is such a relief to see newly elected leaders speak up for public health.

In America, you can be the son of a single mom who survived for many months on Medicaid and food stamps, who worked for many years at McDonald's, and you can go on to become a member of Congress. Colorado, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I'll work hard to make you proud.

I try hard not to follow recency bias, but this has been one crazy ass midterm. Consider, in no particular order: (P.S. I didn’t start the fire, it was always burning) REDISTRICTING WARS: Referendums pass in CA and VA, courts rescind VA, scramble primaries; Still not clear is MO Cong. Winners can be seated ME SEN: Graham Platner drops out; speed firehouse/convention primary held for replacement (don’t forget Janet Mills dropping but not dropping?) WI GOV: David Crowley drops out to stop socialist candidate then gets back in and pulls stunning primary upset over F. Hong. AK SEN: The two Dan Sullivans CA GOV: Rotating frontrunners leads to multiple dropouts, Swawell may need a criminal defense atty; somehow Becerra is GOV-in-Waiting TX SEN: Trump lets Ken Paxton happen NC SEN: Trump chases out Tillis FL SEN: DSA candidate upsets estab pick spending no conventional TV money SC SEN: Lindsey Graham dies; special primary/runoff is held coronating his sister NYC Cong. Races: Mamdani-led DSA sweeps KS SEN: Senator goes rogue on his campaign, makes his own disastrous response TV ad MI SEN: Where to begin: fake poll drives one candidate to drop; Dem primary is a nailbiter; losing candidate endorses other party’s nominee with 72 hours to go. MI O8: Trump endorsed candidate (Amir Hassan) loses primary to candidate who dropped out (Tom Smith). TRUMP: Becomes even odder on the trail, from “powerful bottoms” to dismissing voter concerns. 80yo behaves like a less than healthy 80yo

This is wild. Coming into the election, Democrats controlled 14 House seats in Salt Lake County, and Republicans had 13. As of Thursday afternoon, Republicans only have the lead in 4 of those seats: HD45, HD46, HD47 and HD49. #utpol

There really was a golden period of web writing (pre socials) when you would get up every day and check Salon, Slate, Gawker, Jezebel, Pitchfork, Hipster runoff
maybe even Perez to remind you what never to be. RIP
This is so sad. I’m 54 years old and started reading Salon when I was in college. It was early proof that you could do great journalism on the web and (along with suck.com) made me think maybe I could make a living writing on the internet salon.com/2026/11/05/goodbye

Ladies and gentlemen, after a long absence, the legislative branch of the United States government will return.
With Dems all but certain to prevail in Mississippi and Alaska, we're most likely looking at a 56D-44R Senate and a ~260D-175R House, which would be Dems' largest House majority since 1992.
