BBC local radio cutbacks ‘harming older listeners’ @Telegraph #BBCLocalRadio telegraph.co.uk/business/202…

I can take being shouted at
I can take banter
But physically taking my microphone out my hand and launching expletives at myself just because your side lost a game of football is too far
If losing a game makes someone go that far they should just pack it in and stay at home
Our latest Westminster voting intention poll (25-26 October 2026) shows a five point lead for Labour

Reform UK: 20% (-2)
Lib Dem: 11% (=)

Restore Britain: 4% (+1)
SNP: 2% (=)
Plaid Cymru: 1% (=)

Almost 5m people in England, Tom - more than 5 Live. And if you've read the post, you'll see what that's down from.

Excellent analysis & shame on #ofcom for being asleep at the wheel.
Let’s hope MP’s fight for local & regional broadcasting before it’s too late.

I understand David's point but always been the case that it is geared to an older demographic. And of course will continue to do so as the only truly local programming now is 6am until 2pm weekdays. BBC Local Radio needs a marketing budget and stations need autonomy to flourish.
As BBC local radio proposes yet more change despite ample budget in decent hands - is the game all over? How has it come to this? Who's responsible? I've tried to pull it together

@nicholaswatt: @JayneKirkham4 “I had thousands of people without power+comms for nearly a week in Storm Goretti..they couldn’t use phones+relied on @BBCCornwall [local radio]. Why’s @BBC cutting back local radio stations+reporters? Resilience is needed! bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0…

@andyburnham @wesstreeting @lisanandy @IanMurrayMP @CommonsCMS, @BBC is central to our national #resilience. Yet it’s cutting back truly local radio coverage+journalists. BBC management digital is all strategy needs rethinking+the BBC needs proper generous public funding *now*.
Sales of radios increase while the number of local radio presenters and journalists and the amount of local radio programming are reduced. Now is your moment @Ofcom to look at the BBC Local cuts.

If Streeting is right about the level of threat ....
fully functioning Local Radio has never been more
essential Only a.Public Service Broadcaster like
the BBC should be can provide it
Sadly, Andy, I think there is little chance of Ofcom
starting to do it's job as a "regulator" !

Brilliant first question by GB News
You are 12% behind Labour in the polls and you can't even fill this hall.
Farage pretended that their voters have just gone quiet and blamed staff for having the presser on a Monday because business is busy on a Monday 🤣🤣🤣

This is top stuff. Sums up every way the BBC has failed Local Radio.

I spent five years at BBC Radio Cambridgeshire as well as freelancing at BBC Thames Valley (now BBC Radio Oxford and BBC Radio Berkshire)
Great public service radio.

“There are many joined up models for audio and online which could have been thriving by now in capable hands”. David is, as ever, rigorously thorough and insightful. Misguided BBC leadership, Ofcom missing in action, and where are DCMS/govt?

Steve Saul did a good job last night
Disappointed in the lack of detailed travel info
on the Regional "Faith Show" this am
Just covered pre planned roadworks / rail engineering
not multiple disruptions across Merseyside
It's why Local should mean Local esp. on days like
this !
