From today, 1st Oct, ALL buses must have next stop audio announcements and visual display screens installed.
Equipment has been installed on many older vehicles so we're looking forward to seeing and hearing it working and not just being used as a glorified calendar and clock.

RAIB is promoting Deputy Chief Inspector Andy Lewis to be chief inspector from November, replacing Andrew Hall who is retiring after almost five years in the post. Andy joined the Rail Accident Investigation Branch in 2007.

Passengers advise they regularly miss a Metro at University after alighting their bus because they can’t use these stairs and have to walk a longer way round.
Why have they been closed for over a year, @My_Metro? When will they reopen?
This is not world class, @KiMcGuinness.

Looks like the footbridge at #Alnmouth station needs some TLC/repairs to the concrete and steelwork. @tpexpresstrains @lner @northernassist
*Sigh*.
Newcastle’s Central Station was once promised a new southern entrance (see left pic) to open up access to a redeveloped Stephenson’s Quarter.
After years of waiting we ended up with a small hole punched through a wall as a cheaper western entrance instead (right pic).
This £2BN regeneration is set to transform the area around York Central Station. Led by McLaren Property and Arlington Real Estate, the project's first major phase has secured planning approval and will see more than 1,000 homes constructed on what was once railway land.
The approved plans include a new commercial district, a 213-room hotel, public squares and parkland, as well as a new western entrance to the railway station. The development team says that at least 20% of the homes will be affordable.
The wider 46-hectare masterplan, designed by Allies and Morrison, is set to deliver up to 2,500 homes alongside office, retail and leisure space, creating an entirely new district immediately west of York’s historic centre.
Construction on the first phase is due to start in 2027 and complete 2030.

So this government has seen fit to order trains for their new PUBLIC railway through a PRIVATE financier at a cost that is 2-3x higher per vehicle than any fleet I’ve ever seen…
£1bn for 145 carriages is insane. Even the HS2 order is cheaper per carriage!
FFS THROW UP WIRES!

The DfT are desperate to hide the fact that one of the trains derailed at Lewes was the first with the GBR livery applied, because they know as well as we do that it would be too obvious a metaphor for their rail policy: big stickers, minimal investment, things get worse.

Major track remodelling and renewals is also climate resilience work!
What you see here now, much like at Kings Cross and London Bridge in the recent past, is a track layout able to cope with higher heat and keep services running without disruption in hotter summers.
Tomorrow, we're expecting to welcome back @Se_Railway services into Charing Cross and Waterloo East again.
Trains across the Southeastern network will run to their normal timetable.
We used the 22-day closure to replace nearly 2km of track, sections of six platforms at Charing Cross and carryout vital repairs to the Hungerford Bridge and the footbridges at Waterloo East. We will be carrying out the final bits of testing overnight tonight ready for the first trains of the day in the morning.
We'd like to thank passengers for their patience and understanding.

Bus users are asking if the stops on Pilgrim St by the new HMRC offices are compliant with disability regs.
We don’t know but it’s a terrible design for wheelchairs, pushchairs, guide dog/cane users etc & bus drivers!
Who can we direct our enquiry to, @bandkbuild @NewcastleCC?

infrastructure built for 400m long high speed trains to Scotland, Manchester, the North East, Yorkshire and the East Midlands... that they'll never see thanks to decisions made by THIS government, not the previous one
This week we're sharing these brilliant shots of progress at Water Orton. 📸
As part of one of the most complex engineering programmes on HS2, our team is building two single-track viaducts that will carry high-speed trains into #Birmingham Curzon Street and the rolling stock depot at Washwood Heath. Alongside the M42 twin box and M6 South viaduct, Water Orton is one of three major structures being delivered this year. 🏗️
And there's more to come — we'll be back at Water Orton next weekend for the next phase of work.
Take a look at how things are taking shape below 👇

Fantastic to kick off #BetterTransportWeek at Birmingham New Street Station! We took the recently reopened Camp Hill Line to Pineapple Road, to celebrate the power of better transport to connect people & places. The line has already seen 140,000 passengers using it in 2 months!
Yes. Calvert tiles. 👍

Huge thanks to @northernassist and @N_landCouncil for taking us on the Northumberland Line as part of #BetterTransportWeek. A massive success story, the line has had close to a million journeys in its first year! Next stop on our rail reopenings tour? Treherbert in South Wales!

Changes proposed by HS2 and accepted by DfT are lower speed (320kph rather than 360kph), removing automatic train operation (ATO) and reducing ETCS signalling specification. Note that HS2 suggests the line will host 10 trains per hour.
Have never seen a toilet on a train in that condition. Such a shame that 'clickbait' puts such a bad impression of rail services out to the public.
