Revenue share won't be great as it relies on adding subs.

I'll tap the sign again. From what I know, this was the total budget of the studio over the course of development for everything they worked on, not just Gears.
Which is why it would appear Jason didn't say "my sources," or anything like that. He seems to be qouting Kotaku, his former outlet.
What does matter, is the fact they spent $500 million on everything, but did not make that $500 million back across said output.
Gears of War: E-Day did cost $500 million, according to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier:
"That is a real number. That is real. That's what we're looking at here, that's what [AAA] games cost to make. Especially in North America these days".

I feel like people are reading this the completely wrong way.
Tony is right. If Xbox fans want proper exclusivity then the games need to sell.
They won’t sell because Xbox customers have been trained by the brand to not buy those games (that’s absolutely fine by the way customers who seek value shouldn’t be blamed).
But if you want to keep getting massive tentpole AAA games and also have them on gamepass day one and also are demanding you want them as true exclusives…..that’s where the problem is.
The math doesn’t math and the math hasn’t math’d for a very long time no matter what the armchair data analysts tell you.

Some of the takes I'm seeing for Phantom Blade Zero got me convinced people are playing a different game than me.

What difficulty are you playing it on?

If you’re looking for a challenging action game in Phantom Blade 0 then you should look elsewhere
Once you understand the Chi/Stamina system and weapon swapping it trivializes a large majority of bosses and even enemy encounters

A spooky @alineaanalytics estimates drop :
- Silent Hill Townfall has sold through (no unsold retail copies!) 404K copies (70.9% on PS5) since launching last month. It’s generated $20.2M. On PlayStation, 42.8% of the revenue came from discs – a high share that’s typical for Japan-centric launches.
- Hellraiser: Revival, which we highlighted as one to watch last month, has also done well given its small scope. Since launching on Oct 8, Hellraiser has sold 344K copies and generated $13.1M, with 43.7% via PS5, 43.2% via Steam, and 13.1% via Xbox (console and PC). Critics weren’t into this one (69 on Metacritic), but fans of the franchise loved it, as shown by the 93% positive rating on Steam, and the 4.7/5 user ratings on PS5 and Xbox.
- Resident Evil Requiem, Village, and the remakes for 2, 3, and 4 have generated a combined $850M this year across PlayStation, Steam and Xbox.

Forza Horizon 6 has 8,500 reviews/ratings
Kiln has 400+
It's not the PC app. It's the same console marketplace on console and viewable by browser. Numbers vary slightly, possibly due to how they're updated (text of the reviews is the same)

Gears was a success commercially nearly 15 years ago BG
Commercially its a B tier franchise for xbox
Mister1030 - @mistertenthirty.bsky.social retweeted
Gears at one point could sell 3 million copies in A WEEK. The reason Gears doesnt do that anymore is because of Xbox decisions, not because of anything about the I.P.
Saros never been what gears was.
