Paper 2 is out now at Communications Biology! A great collaboration with the Tollin lab! nature.com/articles/s42003-0…
Replying to @RamRamLab
Paper 2! Noise exposure can cause long term impairment of spatial hearing without cochlear hair cell or synapse loss. biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…
New results! Paper 4 in our series on temporary threshold shifts brings neuronal adaptation into the picture, to compliment the perceptual deficits we discovered in Papers 2-3. Those swollen synapses sure seem like a problem. Led by the unstoppable Dr. Amy Conner.

The wheels are turning, the vault has opened. See below our first of many papers to come on the very persistent effects of “temporary” noise-induced hearing loss.
Good science is hard to come by. We are so proud of our team, led by @Jane_Mondul

New results on the effects of noise on temporal integration in the inferior colliculus and the cochlear nucleus during active listening. We also found that a noise-induced temporary threshold shift disrupted behavioral measures of temporal integration. biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…
The saga continues with Paper 3: contrasting effects of noise on temporal integration in the inferior colliculus and the cochlear nucleus during active listening, and behavioral deficits after noise exposure that may be a form of “hidden” hearing loss

New preprint just posted, on the widespread nature of neuromodulation by multimodal sensory and motor inputs (e.g. visual stimulation and saccadic influences in auditory areas, and vice versa). biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…

Our new paper is up, part of a series on how noise exposure can impair hearing without cochlear hair cell or synapse loss. We found that spatial hearing in noise is disrupted long after clinical measures recovered and suggested normal hearing.

The first of a series of papers to come on the very persistent effects of “temporary” noise-induced hearing loss, and its unique aspects in primates. I’ve never been more proud.
