A character's first line is an introduction, an arrival, a quiet promise of who they will become. Some of my characters shout their entrance, others whisper. In the end, some will lose their voices and others will find theirs. The Stormbreaker Prophecy will release 2026.

Some people care more about what 'side' a person is on than if that person is good or cruel. This sort of dribbling tribalism should have been left behind in the stone age, yet here it is, screaming, dictating policy, and refusing to see reality if someone it personally dislikes is showing it to them.

Repeat after me: Artists are justified to receive compensation for their efforts and creations.
I've worked hard on my book. It's taken so much time and so much money. So yes, stealing it, or pirating if you want to call it that, is absolutely wrong.

OOOOOh my goodness, is this why I can *feel* when there's something not right about a scene I'm writing??? Usually I come back a month later during editing with some great idea that fixes it and then it *feels* right... 🤯
Autistic pattern recognition has you looking like a deranged psychic to your coworkers. How do I know this system won’t work? I feel it. Yeah it will take precisely 22 days to collapse, and I’ve booked some annual leave for the exact moment it happens because I warned you and you didn’t listen.

Writing this book was like painting in my own 🩸 This story grapples with themes of control and power, love vs desire and love vs duty, destiny vs choice. The Stormbreaker Prophecy, release date TBD 2026!

I was recently on a plane and the flight attendant said, “Can I take a selfie with you? I grew up watching Supernatural.” He had an accent, and I said, “Of course. Where are you from?” His lip quivered a bit, and he said, “I know you hate Russia, but I am from there.” That made me realize I need to say: I don’t hate Russia or Russians—I hate what Putin has done to Ukraine and Syria. I don’t hate Palestinians, but I hate what the leaders of Hamas did on October 7th. I don’t hate Israel or Israelis, but I hate the death, suffering, and destruction Netanyahu has wrought on Gaza. And I love my country, but I hate the authoritarian tactics and divisiveness that Trump is wielding to tear us apart and destroy what we stand for. Bad leaders will deploy the power of nations to enrich themselves, silence opposition, and maim and kill—but that doesn’t make the people of those nations bad. Instead, I think bad leaders call us all to action: to stand up and fight for what’s right and to protect those who can’t protect themselves. My flight attendant grew up watching Sam, Dean, and Cas doing just that—fighting till their last breaths to save the world from the forces of evil. I think there’s a reason we take inspiration from those stories—in our hearts we know: we’ve got work to do.

Today I ordered a set of sheets in a bold color that I knew my ex never would have approved. They're just sheets, but they felt like me. Getting a divorce is never easy or without hurt, but this was the faintest hint at the blessings and joys to come out of adversity.

I wish I could impress upon agents just how discouraging it is to know you can hone your craft, revise your work, study comps, etc. only to be rejected before an agent reads a single word of your ms because you picked the wrong fictional character.
Anyone who knows medicine knows that triage is one of the most brutal necessities. It's true for my inbox too. Agents are clawing through hundreds of queries at a time- check out how I sort through the chaos! open.substack.com/pub/restep…

Currently reading 3 delightful #books. I've been on a cozy kick lately, 'cause life is stressful enough. These stories are like getting hugged by your 3 besties. They're currently hitting all the 5-star marks. 🥰 #bookrecs #bookworm #bookaholic #currentread #booksbooksbooks

✨ First lines of my debut scifi/fantasy ✨ I reworked the first chapter at least five times, and I'm so proud of how it turned out. Be honest, would you read it based on these lines? 👀👉👈 #fantasybooks #scifinovel #writersoftwitter #writer #WritingCommunity

I have no educated opinion to add, but I think this is an interesting discussion. Does this say something about the cultural expectations held for men and women? 🤔
Men want fantasy that shows heroes being epic - sword and sorcery Women want fantasy that shows ordinary tasks made wonderous - cozy fantasy Discuss by commenting “both” in the replies

That explains it all. So, a computer with unlimited linguistic capability can produce a more preferable story to a human within a set time frame. I believe that. But I also believe writing is actually rewriting. And no computer can write better than a human given TEN drafts.

This is garbage advice, and selfish. My kids exhaust me. Should I abandon them? My job is to nourish them, not the other way around. Not everything in life is about your own happiness, and over-focusing on your own happiness is likely to result in unhappiness and loneliness.
my therapist said this to me, and it hit me like a brick “if it drains you, it’s not for you. love, friendships, jobs, anything meant for you will nourish you, not exhaust you. 1/2

The level of freaking gaslighting in this convo is insane.
Do artists think writers/authors make loads of money & will commission art if pestered enough? This is why I get suspicious of illustrator accounts when then follow me. I appreciate we’re living in hard times, but please 🙏🏽 not cool.
