AKSHAY KUMAR’S #HAIWAAN - THE REMAKE GAME NEEDS TO CHANGE? 👀 #AkshayKumar remains the only senior superstar consistently bringing 3–4 films to theatres every year. Hit or flop, that volume keeps the theatrical ecosystem active but it’s also a double-edged sword. THE BIG HIGH: When the content clicks, the results can be historic. 2019: Kesari + Mission Mangal + Housefull 4 + Good Newwz : FOUR SUCCESSIVE HITS. THE BIG LOW: When the content doesn’t connect, back-to-back releases leave little time for recovery. 2022–24: Samrat Prithviraj, Raksha Bandhan, Selfiee, Mission Raniganj, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan : a string of theatrical disappointments that hurt the star, producers and exhibitors. And then comes AKSHAY KUMAR’S REMAKE GAME. 🎬 Khel Khel Mein (2024) Original: Perfect Strangers : Hit/Global Success Remake: Flop Reason: Stree 2 dominated the box office. 🎬 Sarfira (2024) Original: Soorarai Pottru : Blockbuster + National Award winner Remake: Flop Reason: The original was already widely available to Hindi audiences on OTT. 🎬 Selfiee (2023) Original: Driving Licence : Hit Remake: Disaster Reason: Weak buzz + little novelty. 🎬 Cuttputlli (2022) Original: Ratsasan : Superhit/Cult Classic Remake: OTT Release / Below Average response 🎬 Bachchhan Paandey (2022) Original: Jigarthanda : Hit/Cult Classic Remake: Disaster Reason: The Kashmir Files completely overshadowed it. 🎬 Laxmii (2020) Original: Muni 2: Kanchana : Blockbuster Remake: OTT Release / Critical Flop Now comes Haiwaan, a remake of Mohanlal’s 2016 Malayalam thriller #Oppam. Can Haiwaan finally break Akshay Kumar’s recent remake curse? 👀 Because doing 2–4 films a year is NOT the ONLY problem - doing remakes/average script is another MAJOR ONE. THE CONTENT HAS TO BE STRONG 🎯 If Haiwaan gets the writing, adaptation and execution right, this could be the remake that changes the conversation around Akshay Kumar’s recent choices. Akshay Kumar and Strong Content is Still a VERY dangerous combination 🤞🏻
