My ancestors carried their Hindu traditions from India to the Caribbean, preserving Diwali across generations. They didn't do that because they identified as "South Asian."
They did it because they were Hindu.
Celebrate Diwali all you want. But don't lecture Hindus about how we're allowed to describe our own festivals.

The world is celebrating Diwali by bursting crackers. My dog is spending the night hiding under the bed, trembling in fear.
Meanwhile, people with asthma are breathing polluted air, elderly people and babies are struggling with the noise, heart patients may experience distress, and birds and stray animals have nowhere to escape.
At what point did our idea of celebration become so insensitive to the people and living beings around us?
Your celebration shouldn’t have to come at the cost of someone else’s health, peace or well-being.
And before anyone makes this about religion or communalism, I celebrate Diwali too. This isn’t about religion. It’s about basic civic sense and empathy.

Norse culture died a long time back.
Greeks today think their God is Jesus, not Zeus.
Egyptians- Fully Islamised. They have nothing to do with Horus/Isis anymore.
Hindus are still living their culture. Still celebrating worshipping Ram.
Distorting it warrants response.
Marvel twisted Norse mythology in the Thor saga. Scandinavians didn't batter a lid.
Many movies like Hercules changed Greek mythology. Athens didn't mind.
Egyptians didn't curse Hollywood for changing references from its glorious history.
Local stories went global.
Ramayan may be a horrendous movie with multiple wrong references. But opposing it serves India nothing.

There is nothing complex that needs to be understood in likes of Ravan karna and bhishma. Ravan is mentioned as out and out evil. Karna is mentioned as trunk of adharma. And bhishma as someone who is dharmic but failed to uphold dharma when needed and sided with adharmis.

I've been saying this for a long time, Israel and Pakistan have absolutely no clashes of interest or any historical animosity, apart from isolated instances.
