I've decided to make Rarecam's Looks from real film.
The Film Emulation project has started.
I shoot color charts and scenes on Rarecam and film cameras, compare colors, study Fuji and Kodak datasheets, and build the Look from that.
AI-made Looks will become common in camera apps. That's why I'm committed to transparency and reproducibility in the color process, the heart of photography.
Cameras, film and developing are paid for by Rarecam sales.
Thanks to everyone who bought it, even once!
We've hit 4,000 downloads and a 4★↑ rating—thank you so much!
Before the launch, I was terrified of Android's device fragmentation and worried it might end up at around 2.5★.
I check every single kind DM, review, and bug report you send. I'm truly grateful from the bottom of my heart for all your support and love!
Thank you for continuing to support Rarecam!
📢Rarecam 1.0.93 Update!!!
・A new Look, “Patina” has arrived💚
・Vignette added!!
・Settings: cleaner icon-based tools menu!
Just a dev rambling here, but reading through these replies makes me a bit sad.
Aside from Rarecam and VWFNDR, almost nothing out there has tackled this hurdle—users have virtually no options.
I’ll keep pushing. I want people to feel that Android can be just as amazing🥲
Replying to @rianjohnson
And huge apologies to my Android friends but it's iPhone only. Hardware consistency across Apple devices is part of what allows us to do this with confidence. Android devices are much more varied, and there's no way with our small team we could dial it in for every device.
Can a phone shoot like Fujifilm’s Classic Neg? Here’s my attempt💪
“Patina” is a new look for Rarecam, inspired by Classic Neg.
I tuned it to get as close as I could, even with a phone’s tiny sensor. Deep shadows. Lively greens. Clear skies.
Every photo here is SOOC.
(Within 3 days, if it passes Google’s review.)
Rarecam 1.0.92 is out now! 🎉
・Preview rendering load is down about 60%, so it runs smoothly even on older phones🏃♀️
・Redesigned UI: a cleaner control panel that works better on small screens📲
・Added a small batch of frames (watermarks). I'm a solo dev, so I'll keep slowly designing more🎞
・Histogram and focus peaking are in📊
・Better RAW development: fewer artifacts, sharper detail✨
A lot easier to use overall!
First test of Rarecam’s video mode🎬 Straight out of the camera. No grading, no fixes. The only edit is the cuts and the music.
It runs on the same RAW pipeline as Rarecam, so all your favorite Looks work just like they do in photos. I’m so excited that this footage comes out of an Android phone with just a button press!
📢Coming in the next Rarecam update:
• Watermark & frame features
• Histogram
• Focus keeping
• Level
All of these are planned for the upcoming release!!!

📢The latest Rarecam update is dropping soon!
What’s new:
• Aspect ratio options
• 2x zoom for the telephoto camera
• ~35mm equivalent focal length on the main camera
• Fold & Flip, Realme Device bug fixes and performance improvements
Also, alongside this update, the Lifetime Founder’s Edition pricing will return to the regular price.
If you’ve been considering it, now would be a great time to pick it up🙇♂️
Dappled light, flattened. Foliage, oversharpened. As smartphone cameras evolve, we keep losing the shadows.
I built Rarecam to strip away all the processing — because your phone is already capable of capturing something far more honest and beautiful📸
"Why are great camera apps so rare on Android?"
I wrote a post about the harsh realities of Android camera development—from the extreme fragmentation that forced even giants like Moment to step away, to how Rarecam is designed to survive it.

If you’re enjoying Rarecam, leaving a review on the store would really mean a lot to me! 🙏

I don’t want to get in the way of your shooting, so I chose not to include any “Rate this app” popups in the app🫶
(If you run into any bugs on your device, please report them directly via the 💬 Feedback button in the top left — I’ll investigate right away!)
The weather finally cleared up here in Japan, so I took some photos with the Velvet Look✨
It has the strongest contrast among Rarecam’s looks—the interplay between the harsh sunlight and deep shadows is truly stunning🌄
