Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has issued a stark warning about Turkey’s growing role in the region.
Bennett says Israel is closely watching what he described as a possible “new axis of radical Sunni Islam” linking Turkey’s President Erdogan with Islamist factions in Syria, as well as Qatar and Hamas.
“For decades we faced radical Shiite Islam,” Bennett said.
“We hope Turkey does not choose to promote Sunni Islamist extremism in the region.”
But he made Israel’s position clear:
“If they try to surround us with terror, we will not sit idle.”
The comments highlight rising tensions in the Middle East as alliances shift following the war with Iran.

This seems like common sense, but you can imagine the pushback such a proposal would get.
