We are proud of passing @SeriousRita motion to join the network of cities and towns which promote the inclusion and welfare of people who are fleeing violence and persecution and become a recognised Borough of Sanctuary.

The way to stop small boat crossings is to provide safe routes so that the families risking their lives to reach the UK have an alternative. Not easy but - unlike the Prime Minister’s plan - workable, as the help for Ukrainian refugees has shown.

Crystal & Pel are volunteer extraordinaires🔥
They help out at L2L, the refugee youth club run by @NorthamptonTofS.
This is a safe, welcoming space for young people seeking sanctuary, often children who have travelled all alone to the UK.

Today marks 10 years of the #HostileEnvironment. This policy has destroyed lives, torn families apart & fuelled appalling racism. It has caused catastrophic human harm.
Our government want us to think that there is no alternative to this cruelty & division. That's BS.

Proud to say @ReadingCouncil passed a motion to reaffirm its City of Sanctuary status with unanimous cross party support Tuesday 22nd March, on the day MPs voted to keep the Border Bill.
@ReadingCos
#RefugeesWelcome
This is a movement of welcome.
Last week, MPs opposed the #AntiRefugeeBill because their borough/city/nation is one of Sanctuary.
This is proof that our networks work. Communities together against hostility.

RBC voted unanimously to reaffirm its commitment to being a place of sanctuary for all people fleeing violence and persecution. The crisis in Ukraine highlights how important it is that councils stand ready. We will continue to work together to make ‘Welcome’ manifest in Reading
This week @ReadingCouncil voted against the cruel #AntiRefugeeBill & voted to develop a Sanctuary Strategy so they can best support refugees 💪💪
Here's Councillor @AliceMpofuColes (& Sanctuary Ambassador) speaking about the warm welcome she received from the people of Reading.

“We have an international convention, the UN Convention on Refugees, we should be using to grant people safety immediately in UK if they choose to come here because they're fleeing bloodshed in Ukraine. It’s as simple as that.” Our CEO @EnverSol gives evidence to @CommonsHomeAffs
Here's @EnverSol telling MPs why the Home Office is facing such criticism over 🇺🇦 : "A complex bureaucratic immigration system" that does not see "the face behind the case"

UK immigration policy is scary.
We say it’s high time for a kinder, fairer & more effective approach to supporting refugees in the UK.
This halloween, and every other day of the year, let's make #RefugeesWelcome.
Thanks to @bristolmustact!
