"When I was a child I pictured our language as settled and passed down by a board of syndics, seated in grave convention along a table in the style of Rembrandt." This is the first sentence in Quine's Foreword to David Lewis's book Convention. Ummm, no way he thought this.
Not a fan of the selective fact-checking or corrections during the debate. Appearance of bias, to say the least. We need to be honest here. It's also counter-productive.
Well...yeah! We also need to change the incentives on the consumer side, so that there's not any benefit to indulging or believing these things.
I'm on a @FitzcarraldoEds kick, and I loved this novella. Such fine writing, and a mesmerizing depiction of a life of culture. On top of that, she provides insightful analyses of how we engage in controlled performative acts to create beautiful little detached worlds of value.

Reality check: @JoeBiden is the nominee of the Democratic Party, nominated by voters in primaries across the country. Unless the @POTUS, himself, decides to quit--which he won't--that issue is settled.
The discussion that is going on now was timely a year ago, when few wanted to have it.
It's largely irrelevant today.
If you read the comments, so many people believe this is true. So disturbing for those of us who teach and reason about the logical consequences that follow from principles, premises, or policies. Sisson was basically offering a reductio ad absurdum, so arguing for the opposite.
