I’ve spent the week at different settings from 16-19 to primary. I’ve asked questions about ‘oracy’. It’s been universally deemed important & timely, but for very different reasons: from language delays to readiness for work. Getting ‘it’ clear, shared, & enacted well is key.

Interesting case studies from this DfE research on belonging. What struck me: - Good lesson routines help absent pupils belong again - Staff belonging comes first - Belonging is mostly a byproduct, not itself a target. assets.publishing.service.go…

This could be up there as one of the worst complaints made by a parent and what makes it worse is that the school leader didn’t just shut it down.

If the response to a student throwing a chair is to ask whether the teacher made the lesson engaging enough, I'd like to know how boring a faculty meeting has to get before the same logic applies.

Cork County Hall will light up in green this evening in support of 'World Pans Pandas Awareness Day'. PANS/PANDAS Awareness Day is observed on October 9 each year to raise awareness about Paediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS) and Paediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections (PANDAS). PANS and PANDAS are serious health issues that can cause sudden and severe changes in a child's behaviour, often following infections like strep throat. Symptoms may include obsessive-compulsive behaviours, tics, and abrupt declines in mental health. ➡️ For more information, visit: bit.ly/3VCtJEL #LightUp4Pans #PansPandasAwarenessDay #Green4Pans

Strong piece on the importance of background knowledge for reading. Ultimately, reading development is slow, cumulative, and it requires years of reading experience, practice & skilled instruction. We have to get this right.
For years, we’ve tried to improve reading by teaching children what good readers do: find the main idea, make inferences, visualize, predict. But reading comprehension depends on what good readers know. My new paper for @AEIeducation aei.org/research-products/re…

Some really positive news! Hot off the press! Thanks to the nationaleducationunion and the new Ed secretary lucympowell , the 3.5% pay award for teachers is now going to be full funded which I’m sure will be welcome news to all teachers!

Fed up of pay rises. Focus needs to be on schools having enough money to be able to teach and support pupils appropriately. Well paid teachers are pointless when they cant do the job because all the money's going to our salaries! That's where the stress and pressure comes from!

Honestly I’d rather they fund to sort the workload, poor behaviour services, mental health services and try to encourage a bit more parental responsibility and accountability 🤞🏻🫠

Body found in search for three-year-old Noah Woods theguardian.com/uk-news/2026… An awful outcome. The deadly triad that is autism, wandering and drowning takes another life. Really angry that the 'search water first' message has not been pushed more here in the UK.
