#justbeatit Shinobi (PS2) on Super difficulty after Normal and Hard to unlock. Trav was right, this is a beast of a game. Some boss fights take as much luck as skill and there's some jank. But the unique mechanics make it worth experiencing if you're up for a challenge. @polykill

#justbeatit Mushihimesama, my first Cave shmup. Levels have a very satisfying side to side flow. The Steam version includes many modes and difficulties. My best clear was a 1cc of the 1.5 version on Original mode. @polykill

#justbeatit Shadow of the Ninja, an NES action platformer. Decent but a little janky. The remake greatly improves on it. @polykill

#justbeatit Shadow of the Ninja Reborn, a remake of the NES action platformer that came out recently. Challenging at first, becomes easy with practice, memo, & routing. The weighty movement and small delay before jumping is quite polarizing but I'm fine with it. @polykill

#justbeatit Shantae. Looks amazing for GBC. But combat is awful, enemies take a gajillion hits, there are insta-death pits in a gated exploration game, attack "upgrades" are unsafe to use, and the final clue would make Simon's Quest blush. 2002 game #2. @polykill

#justbeatit Prison City, a solid NES style action platformer with Power Blade and Shatterhand influences. I beat on classic (hard) difficulty thanks to an infinite lives secret that no one on the internet seems to know about. Friends of the NES should check it out. @polykill

#justbeatit Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, a PS2 3D platformer. I got all the notebook pages and beat all the time trials for 100%. Developer commentary as time trial reward was neat. Enjoyable but won't blow you away. 2002 game #1. @polykill

Replying to @chase_8bitroots
In my opinion all reviews are implicitly selling you the reviewers' tastes, and I want that out in the open and properly analyzed/talked about, instead of lurking under the surface and pretending to be neutral or "objective"

#justbeatit Super Meat Boy with 106% completion. A great splatformer. Faster and more frantic than Celeste, which it's sometimes compared to, every level has a target time that usually demands mastery of the level but not absolute perfection and is fun to beat. @polykill

Something I wish more 2D game devs did is question whether or not their games actually benefit from widescreen resolutions vs something like 4:3 or the shmup TATE mode cause I think the answer would be "no" way more often than you'd think

#justbeatit Amplitude Brutal difficulty. My attempt at Insane difficulty ended at Kimosabe. I'm not a fan of having to switch to the next instrument and hit the start of its phrase within a fraction of a second. Hitting buttons to music is still fun but could be better. @polykill

#justbeatit Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection true ending on Legend difficulty. Harder than the other games in the series if you can believe it. Lower difficulties give you more checkpoints and more hits before you're in your boxers. Check it out if you like the series. @polykill

Starting to resemble an actual boss now! Shots get reflected but push the boss back so there's a bit of back & forth going on. Trying to figure out how to communicate how to fight this thing will be a nightmare

#justbeatit New Super Mario Bros 2 - A pretty easy Mario game that can't touch the classics. A lower tier Mario game is still a decent game though. @polykill

#justbeatit Sparkster (GEN). I'd heard this is the worst of the 3 Rocket Knight games. I haven't played the other 2 but I can believe it. 3 out of 7 levels are kinda bad. Rest are decent. Presentation has that classic Konami polish. Beat on Easy, Normal, and Hard. @polykill

#justbeatit X-Men 2: Clone Wars. Don't listen to SNESDrunk, this is not one of the best games on the Genesis. Bad enemy design, bad camera, level design that forces you to go slowly,a couple boss fights with unclear goals. I played as Wolverine the whole time for healing. @polykill

#justbeatit Zen: Intergalactic Ninja, a decent late-era NES action game where every level is something new. You could be in a mine cart, doing isometric platforming, fighting a boss, and more. Levels are tough the first time but not so bad once you learn their tricks. @polykill

#justbeatit Enter the Gungeon. Mixed feelings - I like the combat but don't like the huge variance in difficulty between runs based on what you find. Max health boost on no-hitting a boss is kinda like Gradius syndrome where a small mistake has a large effect. @polykill
