He stood in a mid block on the left and wasn't arsed to defend either on the front or the back end. I was gonna do a thread on it, but it pissed me off so much when I watched the game again I couldn't. It was horrendous.
Tomorrow, a thread will be posted about some concerning off-the-ball symptoms from Cody Gakpo. I noticed it against Villarreal and initially thought it was just a temporary issue, given that he had only just returned from injury and might need a game to get back up to speed. However, the same issue cropped up twice in quick succession early in Sunday’s match #LFC

You had me in the first half not gonna lie
#10s are dead No space to play in any more Man to man pressure makes the modern game kick and rush All myths people tell so that they can tell myths, there is no other reason for this than man's innate pleasure in myth making through rough generalization

I’d be fine with that as well, as long as Grav isn’t in the pivot, I’d agree!

What do we want to see this weekend? Iraola working with the most limited squad he's had since the season started. Virg and Araujo had poor 1h v Villareal. For me the team picks itself between that and the injuries. What do you all think?

Id love for him to be the rw incoming, offers variety to rio and munoz there, can be played in the 10, can be played as a rcm in a 3, really brilliant

Who doesn't want Gilberto Mora, and who does? If you aren't sure about him, let us know why.

Everyone has lost their mind over Nico Paz tonight, and rightly so-he is incredible. Here was our thoughts before Szoboszlai signed his new deal.

2H - change in shape to somewhat of a 2323 helped in spades - Nyoni grew into the game was brilliant - Wirtz introduction helped the press massively - Rio superb again, MOTM for me - MacAdonna another excellent performance, our POTS thus far imo - Iraola deserves his credit after a shaky first 45 Brighton up next #LFC

1H - Virg worst 45 for us by a margin - why is Araujo jumping into midfield and vacating his position so often - what is our plan when we enter the final third - build up extremely poor again - why is MacAllister top 3 in the air - Rio bright again, great moment for the 2nd goal - Koumas and Grav peripheral at best - good response after going 2-0 down

Strong line-up from Iraola. Suprised not to see Gomez and Mamar get a start. Good mix of experience and youth on the bench. Good chance again for Nyoni to gain some confidence and rhythm. We'll need him with Szoboszlai out for the next while. Resting Barcola, Wirtz and Isak was the right thing to do. Hopefully Gakpo comes through unscathed.
Liverpool starting XI: Alisson, Van Dijk, Jacquet, Mac Allister, Gakpo, Tsimikas, Araujo, Gravenberch, Nyoni, Koumas, Ngumoha.

Simon always on the money when it comes to this stuff. Excellent piece as always.

Who are we wanting to see in the starting lineup this evening? Are we thinking going strong with Wirtz, Jacquet, Barcola, Isak all starting again Or should Iraola rotate and get the likes of McConnell, Gomez, and Danns some starting minutes 🤔

Los que más progresan el balón en el equipo más allá de los centrales son Wirtz y Mac Toca que los laterales y el otro pivote haga más trabajo sacando el balón

Going forward we would hope to see us be a little more comfortable and short passing focused in the build out phase. A tweak of shape to see the diamond or triangle between the CMs and CBs rather than the box shape vs Brentford. This allows us to progress centrally more often, rather than going long. This tweak aslo pushes fullbacks higher up, using them both in a more attacking way vs offsetting them to keep that +1 in the backline, as we saw with Kerkez positioned low. Let us know your thoughts below, likes and RT's appreciated!

We looked back at the weekends game v Brentford- and while it was 3pts on the road- we couldn't help but notice many areas of weakness in out build out. In this mini-thread we'll highlight some of those, with a specific focus on the first half.
