On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther challenged the church with his Ninety-Five Theses, helping ignite the Protestant Reformation.
But what exactly was Luther protesting?

With @craigacarter1 announcing his move from being a Calvinistic Baptist to Presbyterian, an old question is back.
If you’re a Calvinistic Baptist who calls yourself Reformed, what do you consider the bare minimum for being Reformed? I’d love to hear your perspective:

Why did @CraigACarter1 become Presbyterian? His story raises a question worth asking: If we agree on the five points of Calvinism, what else does it mean to be Reformed? @SolaDogmatika considers this perennial question:

It’s B. B. Warfield’s 175th birthday! Surely we can get a few Calvinists to celebrate. 🎂😂
What’s your favorite Warfield quote? Share it below ⬇️
The Calvinist is the man who has seen God, and is filled on the one hand with a sense of his own unworthiness…and much more as a sinner, and on the other with adoring wonder that nevertheless this God is a God who receives sinners.

Men’s hands can’t be strong when God rises up: the strongest have no power to resist him, nor can any deliver out of his hands.

“Now God stands ready to pity you; this is a day of mercy.”
RC Sproul called Jonathan Edwards’s Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God “a sermon from the Word of God that we all need to hear.”

We say that justification consists in the forgiveness of sins and the imputation of the righteousness of Christ.

The only ghost at my house is the Holy Ghost, by God’s grace. Happy Reformation Day, friends! 🕊️
Thankful for His Word, the Reformers’ faithfulness, & God’s Spirit to help guide us in all things here below, until our Savior calls us home. 🏡

Post tenebras lux. After darkness, light 🕯️
This Reformation Day, we return to justification by faith alone and the righteousness God freely gives us in Christ:

The true treasure of the Church is the Most Holy Gospel of the glory and the grace of God.

Christianity is not merely a cultural influence that produces charity and good works.
The Gospel is the proclamation of Christ crucified and risen, through whom sinners are justified by grace alone, through faith alone.
Good works are the fruit of salvation, never its foundation.
Romans 3:28
Faith can be embodied in all cultures, because it does not identify itself with any of them in a specific one. It dwells within them, shaping them from within according to the “form” of Jesus Christ; that is, through charity, service and the filial recognition of God’s fatherhood. In this way, the Church draws from the various cultures all that is good, beautiful and true, in order to embody and transmit the message of the Gospel. #GeneralAudience

We do not reject good works; we embrace them and teach them in the highest degree.
It is not on their own account that we condemn them, but on account of the impious and perverse notion of seeking justification by them.

If you’re new to the five points of Calvinism an Arminian friend may respond, “Calvin murdered Servetus!”
Knowing what happened helps us answer honestly. A fair judgment considers Calvin as a man of his time without us approving everything he did:

A link to a carefully written article by a brother who habitually engages in good will, and has worked hard to ground (unavoidably) contentious elements of the narrative in original sources. I appreciate Anthony's article. It makes insightful points, and is worth a read.
On this day in 1553, Michael Servetus was burned at the stake in Geneva.
Calvin did not murder him, but he supported the council’s sentence. What did Servetus believe, and why did Calvin support his execution?

Servetus was put to death today in 1553. If you had lived in Geneva in 1553, would you have supported John Calvin in the execution of Michael Servetus or opposed it?
