Ever heard of a City Charter? Neither had I, until a few years ago. It's basically a set of governing principles regarding the role, authority and structure of a city government - and Chicago is one of the only major US cities without one. Should we adopt one? What are the pros and cons? Listen in and learn with me - tune in live on Tuesday, October 13th, as I chair a House Executive committee hearing on the subject. ilga.gov/House/AudioVideo

The Diversey Community Coalition is an organization of neighbors formed to urge ComEd to find a new location for their proposed substation at Diversey and Seminary. I support their efforts and hope to see this land turned into housing, given that the proposed site is within just a couple hundred feet of a transit-accessible CTA station. If you support the DCC's goal of transit-accessible housing on Diversey, please submit a public comment to the ICC. Instructions for doing so can be found at diverseycc.org

People throughout our state have serious and reasonable concerns regarding data center development. Energy costs, noise pollution, and ecological impacts are just a few of the effects that these new facilities can have. The POWER Act, which I am pushing for this fall, will impose strict regulations on data center development and ensure that these negative effects are stopped, protecting our communities and resources. And next week, I'll be joining @RepKellyCassidy and @ILCleanJobs to help explain what data centers are, and how the POWER Act will effectively regulate them to ensure that community input and environmental protection always come first. NEXT WEEK: @RepKellyCassidy and I join @ILCleanJobs for a Data Center Town Hall. There may be no more relevant and controversial issue right now than data centers, and my colleagues and I are taking the many concerns expressed by those affected by their development seriously. The POWER Act, which I support, will strongly regulate data centers and maximize the role of community input in any development process. We are looking forward to engaging with both industry experts and our neighbors on this important topic. Hope to see you there at Center on Halsted! RSVP Here: bit.ly/LetsTalkDataCenters

Today, we honor the memory of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, as well as the bravery of those first responders and service members who courageously worked to save lives on that day, 25 years ago. We are forever changed. We will never forget.

As Chicagoland transit faced a fiscal cliff last year, my constituents were clear: we need significant and long-term structural changes to our public transit, not a one-time fix. Today, with the launch of NITA, we are one meaningful step closer to establishing the safe, reliable and connected regional transit system that we need and deserve.
A new era for Chicagoland transit. 🚇✨ Beginning today, NITA is officially your regional transit agency, coordinating affordable, reliable, safe transit across the CTA, Metra, and Pace. nita.illinois.gov/about-rta/…

Good news: Illinois recently received yet another credit upgrade from Moody's. We're securing a stronger future for our state through effective financial management and common-sense fiscal policies - and credit rating agencies are taking note.
