It’s is what it is, uncontrolled “biased” data. In the real world clinical setting we tend not to care, in the big picture of “is this treatment effective” we should. Too many confounders in anecdotes including therapist nonequipoise

A quick question. Do clinicians need to know how a treatment works (causal mechanism(s)) in order to use said treatment effectively?

Education, learning, knowing v aware Need to know Nice to know Where to find it Old ostrich shouts at learning and understanding a thread 🧵
OK I’m going to be that “dink” on twitter that says “yep great memorisation & recall” BUT this is the problem with how we perceive and measure learning and knowledge. This is no better than learning the names & capitals of the US states. I have measured nothing other than recall

I think this is still one of the best things I have written. 26 years on and we are still ignoring the message. Empower the patient. jospt.org/doi/pdf/10.2519/jo…

Reflection & metacognition are two great clinical reasoning tools.🧵 I often advise clinicians to choose one patient a day to reflect on. Think about the interaction you had, the flow, the discussion, the treatment, the assessment, the education, the closure and forward plan.

Polite request If you teach patients to do cervical retraction, can you stop calling it chin tucks , plus can you allow them to do head and neck retraction , not just head bobbing like a demented chicken. Thanks,

You may have heard the term “derangement” and immediately thought of Robin McKenzie. But the story of the term goes back further. @Retlouping explains how McKenzie was strongly influenced by the work of British orthopaedic surgeon Dr James Cyriax. history.physio/derangement-f…

Muscles rarely if ever just do their actions during everyday function. It is more likely that they don’t. Functionally most work synergistically and perform movement opposite to their action. Quads are knee flexors, abdominals are spine extenders. Enjoy your day.
