"Oh no, the Saints found their starting QB and he might only be able to play for them for 8+ more years before he's old (in football terms)"

No. They don't even bench people for fumbling.

Tyler Shough in the red zone going back to last season...
74.4% (32 of 43) completion rate (1st)
39.5% TD rate (1st)
0% INT rate (t-1st)
17 TD to 0 INT in the red zone to start his career.
10 red zone TD this season are tied for the league lead.

Shough is on pace to take more contacts (hits, sacks, knockdowns) than any QB since at least 2006.
Cost is starting to show. They have to develop a run game.
New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough has been playing with two broken bones in his left hand, sources told ESPN.

I've never left a #Saints win wanting to have a head coach fired more than today.

The goal of rules should *always* be to eliminate as much gray area as possible. That’s what this one does and we should ask for more common sense rule interpretations, not less. If a ball is tipped in the air, offense and defense have equal rights to it.
#Saints fans will be told "this happens to everybody" but... sheesh.
Also, would have to ask @StickToTheModel to confirm, but, an early assumption one could make looking at the model is that the Saints being so far in the bottom left contributed to the Falcons/Buccaneers being in the top right quadrant.
Meaning these flags are directly influencing divisional play/leaders.
Obviously we'd need the data points to see if that theory holds any water.

Hate to see what happen to Dante..
Young QBs .. DO NOT SLIDE!
Incorporating a low and away dive is much safer and effective
Here we go again…
Young QBs: here’s my coaching point on sliding⬇️
I’d much rather Qbs “slide, dive, knife” head first rather than slide feet first and here’s why.
1) the ground NEVER loses… at any moment a defender can lunge, intentionally or not, and the only target he has to hi is your chest or head..
laying back to slide only aids in the momentum of your head going backwards and violently into the ground. Diving or knifing protects the back of your head from bouncing off the turf
2) YOU (the Qb) control the hit- when “knifing” down low to the ground you do so directionally away from the nearest imminent contact. This also limits the amount of body exposed to a hit.
i.e: Think about how a baseball player can head first slide “away” from the tag
3) the ability to SEE where the contact may be coming from - by “knifing” or diving, you keep your eyes on the pursuing defender longer again aiding in diving away from the nearest defender and your arms, chest and head ( along with the ball) are no longer exposed to the extent they would be in a feet first slide.
I realize Tyler was trying to quickly give himself up, and yet the defender could’ve still caused injury..
JJ on the other hand controls where the hit comes from and is able to dive away from it and protect himself.
All this catering to the QB like they're made of Charmin is taking away from the watchability. This isn't fun.

I know there is a lot of talk about QBs sliding… I slid my whole career & never took a hit like you see now & that’s when hitting was allowed!
I don’t believe it’s the sliding that’s the problem, it’s the TIMING of the slide! QBs are pushing envelope bc they are more protected & they expect defenders to just assume they aren’t going to keep running… bad assumption!
Go down early or just be a running back - the in-between is the problem IMO!
Get rid of the QB slide. It's incredibly dangerous and expecting athletes on defense to somehow magically be able to break the laws of physics to cater to a QB's slide *in real time* is what is causing these types of hits.
I'm not saying QBs shouldn't be able to protect themselves or go down early, but the slide is an incredibly unsafe position to put yourself into physically. Then, trying to get every last yard out of a play? Sadly these types of things will continue to happen unless the rules are changed.
Also, before anyone says anything, yea I don't think it was sportsmanlike to "gloat" after the hit. That doesn't change what caused the problem in the first place.

I will die on the hill of putting this on the QB. QB can slide whenever he wants and keep himself out of danger. The closer the QB gets to a defender the more that defender is committing to make a hit. Defender doesn’t know if QB is tryna run him over, make him miss, or slide.
Seen way too many awful, scary or flat-out dirty hits watching football. And this is definitely bad.
But never seen a guy act this way after one, celebrating and not showing an ounce of concern/remorse. (@SharpFootball posted an extended clip of him.)

Cmon Chase. Be serious. I hate that Dante got injured. As a former player I never want to see any of these young men get hurt.
But Dante and other QBs need to give themselves up earlier. Stop trying to squeeze every yard out of the scramble. Defenders are doing their job. QBs need to do theirs if they want protections of the slide.

Incredible human, who has always showed love whenever we run into each other. When you speak to him it’s like you’re speaking to a superhero in New Orleans. On top of his incredible family and team first-class people that deserve all the support.

He’s not lying. He really started talking about it that day.
"I had never thought about coming back from retirement ... There's no bigger fan in sports than me with Tyler Shough."
@T_Armstead72 considered unretiring to block for the Saints' QB after meeting him 😳

True story. Sean would challenge all of us. The question about being coached hard was rhetorical because he was gonna do that anyways. He was a lot tougher on me though because he knew things came easy to me and I got bored. Didn’t bother me at all because we’d go back and forth talkin shit. He always knew when it was time to lock in I was ready though 😂. Forever grateful for you brutha @SeanPayton
Sean Payton reveals the late night text exchange he had with Alvin Kamara after watching him coast through a practice, and explains how he challenged him to raise his standards if he really wanted to make the Hall of Fame
“I text Alvin one night, Kamara, and he’s one of my favorite players, right? And it was a Wednesday. He had a tendency, he was so gifted, he could get bored. And then if he got bored, he might drop an easy pass.”
“And he had one of those Wednesdays. In season, Wednesday is the first day of practice. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. And it was just a nonchalant day, and yet for someone who was so elite.”
“I text him that night and I said, ‘Hey, I want to ask you a question. Can I coach you hard?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, why are you tripping?’ And I said, ‘Well, look, we’ll talk about it tomorrow.’”
“And then, you know, it bothered him a little because he had to go to sleep. And then the next day he sees me in pre-practice, and I said, ‘Just let me explain this. Do you see yourself being in the Hall of Fame someday?’ And he said, ‘Yeah.’”
“And I said, ‘All right. Well, I don’t think your trajectory right now is steep enough to make that goal happen. I think your trajectory is five Pro Bowls, a couple All-Pro teams, phenomenal career, all-time leading rusher, but I think your trajectory, and I think your practices have to be.. And then he starts complaining to me, and I said, ‘I thought you told me I could coach you hard.’ And then, you know, it hit him.”
