Give us this day our daily dust-up,
Give us this day our daily dunk,
Give us this day our daily draught
From the chalice
Of malice
On which we’re drunk.
Christian, repeat a better prayer than the one so many pastors offer to the gods of X. And don’t seek bread from their hands.

Your work is your offering, not your identity.
This definition matters, because it protects us from both over-valuing and under-valuing what we do. It elevates work to an expression of worship, while removing it from a position of idolatry.

The Bible leaves no room for demonizing people.
That annoying neighbor? Love your neighbor. The unfamiliar foreigner? Love them as yourself. Those terrifying enemies? Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.

It’s agonizing to see such devotion to Lost Cause myths. But I’ve seen people like Joel here welcomed within the ranks of certain evangelicals. Some of them also deny these people are Confederate apologists. So, let's begin with Joel’s take that slavery is ultimately defensible.

American Christianity* comes with an asterisk—-*
Christianity in America can be more American than Christian,
More jingoistic than Jesus-focused,
More patriotic fervor than prophetic witness,
More flag-waving than cross-bearing,
More Pledge-led than Beatitudes-blessed.
More stars and stripes than bread and wine,
More red, white, and blue than Calvary's hue,
More Capitol Hill than Golgotha's hill.
I am a patriot; I love my country deeply.
I cry when singing anthems like "America the Beautiful."
Yet, my allegiance to Jesus and His kingdom reigns supreme.
In this tension, I stand--
Feet on earth, eyes on heaven,
Navigating the narrow path
Between civil religion and faith religion,
Between citizen of a republic and disciple of a King.

I honestly cannot believe there’s a public debate about whether women should attend seminary while we’re in the throes of so many public “moral failures” occurring amongst our male leaders.
I attended seminary— even post earning a PhD from a tier 1 research university. What I learned in seminary was incredibly helpful for shoring up holes in my theology. At a personal level, seminary equipped me to better disciple my children; at the professional level, seminary equipped me to better disciple other people’s children.
Listen, women have their own gender common sin issues. Let's be clear: Women are not impervious to sin. But generally speaking, our "moral failures" do not include infidelity and sexual abuse— at least, certainly not at the same statistical rate as our male leaders.
Which leads me to this point: Maybe we should care a little less about which gender is preaching and studying God’s word and a little more about the spiritual fruit and accountability in our leaders' lives.
For the sake of our Gospel witness, let’s engage one another with less hubris and more humility.

Very true. And healing doesn't always mean "wholeness." An amputee that "heals" will always live with a missing limb. They never get it back. They learn to live without. Abuse and trauma often steal things from us. We never get them back. We "heal" by learning to live without.1/

And when you read do not have many open tabs as the gentiles do, because they think they will read because of their many tabs. But when you read, go into your room and close your laptop and read a book, and your Father who sees in secret will see you have actually read.

I'll leave the 99 tabs to add another tab
I'll run to meet my prodigal tab refreshing back home to me.
I'll go the extra mile to open another tab.

Which of you would not leave the 99 tabs to go find the 1 tab which is playing sound. And having found the one, he returns to his friends & says, rejoice with me, for I have found the one which was playing an Ad & have closed it.

Oof. Yeah. Staying teachable doesn’t mean God is wishy washy. lt means WE are fallible.

To quote "What You Think I Am" by The Choir:
I'm nobody's angel
I'm not that good
I'm no red devil
In the wicked wood
I'm a dedicated minister
And a downright sinister man
I'm a whole lot better
And a whole lot worse
Than what you think I am

I like Ben Franklin's quote: A man wrapped up in himself makes a very small bundle.
