Watched Street Fighter (2026). Crazy how not a single character is accurate to the source material. Someone clearly cared about getting the costumes, combat, and catch phrases correct, but apparently thought the personalities didn't matter.

It's not as if SF characters are overly complex. They've had essentially the same personalities for thirty years. I suppose they decided audiences would prefer Marvel humor. And who knows, maybe they're right.

Dhalsim was cool though.

Happy Halloween to all the spooky skeletons out there. (It's all the skeletons.)

Resident Evil 2 (OG) is almost a perfect game, but there's one detail in its narrative that I've always found frustrating.

"That guy's a maniac! Why'd he bite me?" This introductory line sets up a mystery that's never answered. Why was the truck driver bitten? Even as the credits roll after scenario B, we never learn what incited this incident.

I'm aware of the fan theory that he was bitten by a zombie, but there's nothing in the files to confirm this. My personal theory is that it was a rival truck driver, but I guess we'll never know. Anyway, still a 10/10 masterpiece.

Finished Final Fantasy VII. Hot take: It's a good game.

Susan Sontag's "On Photography" described this back in 1977.

Some musings on FF7, having just finished the second disc: The game has a reputation as this huge epic, but compared to modern games (even ones I like) which take five hours just to get started, nearly all of FF7 feels like "the good parts."

FF7's gameplay feels like a streamlined version of 6 (one of the handful of FFs I've played). Don't mean this as a criticism, but I get why 7 was able to tap into the mainstream.

Not all the minigames have been great, but the volume of them feels representative of the creativity in early 3D games. Also, we need to bring back pre-rendered backgrounds. They can look so amazingly cool.

Unironically the coolest character to ever appear in a fighting game. Or any kind of game.

The near-universal first reaction to AOF3R gameplay is that it's clunky, janky, and awkward. When you actually learn how to play it, it reveals itself as an absolute gem. Really looking forward to the full release.
