Most department seminar series are budget constrained. But presenting work in other departments is a crucial way for speakers to get feedback on their work and disseminate their ideas, and for everyone (speakers and the audience) to broaden their networks. This is most important for junior scholars.
If you’d like to invite junior scholars to present causal work related to crime or CJ policy, but need funding to do it, get in touch! We can provide funding for this (just as we do for conferences).

Big news today on the cannabis policy front. The AP confirms that the DEA is processing a change in cannabis classification to Schedule III, recognizing the medical uses of the plant. This is the most significant change to federal drug policy in 50 years.

Today the Center for Free Enterprise in the Hunt College of Business welcomed North Korean defector Yeonmi Park as part of their Leonard E. Read Public Speaker Series. "I do believe I am the first North Korean in El Paso, so we are making history," Park said during the lecture.
Park defected from North Korea when she was 13 years old and rebuilt her life in the U.S. Her book, “In Order to Live: A North Korean Girl’s Journey to Freedom,” is an account of her life experience, published in 30 countries in more than 10 languages.
