A day of intense anger, exhausting sadness and solemn reflection in Wales.
Thinking about every single one of the 116 children and 28 adults who died after the catastrophic collapse of a colliery spoil tip in #Aberfan 60 years ago.
That day revealed the worst and best of humanity. We remember the bravery of those who tried to help, but also the unimaginable pain and grief...as well as the systemic negligence that caused it. Time heals nothing.

🚨 Mark Carney hits the highest approval rating recorded for a Canadian prime minister as his pivot towards Europe accelerates.
🔥 Remember in 2016 as Governor of the Bank of England, Carney warned truthfully about Brexit’s risks to sterling, investment, growth and financial stability.
Brexiteers did not answer his evidence. They attacked his independence, accused him of interfering and dismissed his warnings as Project Fear.
Boris Johnson claimed Carney was undermining confidence in Britain.
A decade later, the economic damage Carney warned about is embedded in Britain, while Canada is gaining influence, alliances and strategic options under his leadership.
Carney completed his term at the Bank of England and returned home. Canada subsequently placed the judgement Britain had vilified at the centre of its government.
Now he is standing up to Trump, reducing Canadian dependence on the US, joining European defence procurement and pursuing a profound new alliance with the EU.
Carney was right about Brexit.
He is right about Trump.
And @andyburnham should learn from him now:
Tell the truth.
Remove the Brexit red lines.
Rebuild Britain’s European relationship.
Choose sovereign cooperation over frightened dependency.

Extraordinary response to @MarkCarney speech in European Parliament. Standing ovation from almost all MEPs and huge applause in public gallery. A new world order really is being shaped and it is not how Trump’s USA imagined. It used to be taken as read that the US President led the free world. No more. UK really needs to get fully on board with the big changes taking place. I hope this was discussed at the football last night!! Meanwhile both in our interview with @Ed_Miliband and latest @RestIsPolitics the Carney worldview is on the agenda.

Banned from Reform's conference (again)...
It seems the self proclaimed "defenders of free speech" aren't fans of free speech.
For the second year in a row, I have been banned from Reform UK's conference. I applied for accreditation and was told that it had been rejected.
It’s worth noting that I regularly report from Conservative, Labour, Plaid, Green and Lib Dem conferences.
I was actually given a press pass for the Reform conference in Wales in the autumn of 2024. While there I interviewed Nigel Farage.
Just before the interview one of his long-time inner circle came up to me and whispered “I have never worked with you before, and whether we work together again will depend on what happens next”.
It seems I failed the test.
The ability of journalists to question, scrutinise and report on the actions of politicians is one of the absolutely fundamental cornerstones of any functioning democracy.
The banning of reporters they don’t like is, in my view, a clear indication of where the party really stands on free speech as well as how they would behave if they were to hold the full power of government including the police, armed forces and security services.

Ask Fuckface something he doesn’t like and the “great negotiator” becomes a screaming toddler, the “strongman” becomes a fragile fucking snowflake, and the “defender of free speech” starts ordering reporters to shut the fuck up.

The most important thing in management is the pronouns you use.
We and our. Not me and my.
People work with me. Not for me.
I make the final decision, but I want the firm to think of itself as a collaboration.
It's our job as leaders to think about our employees.
Take care of your people. Everything else follows.

Saying 'nothing good has ever come from GoF research' is false. Research that increases or modifies viral function has improved flu surveillance, vaccine dev, antiviral research & understanding of viral biology. Debate is which experiments are justified, & under what oversight.
