Macklem’s Incompetence: Fighting the 1970s, Punishing Canada Today
The Bank of Canada is hiking into a negative growth shock because it fears an inflation problem its own underlying data do not establish. This is not prudent risk management. It is incompetence dressed up as vigilance.
Trimmed CPI inflation is 1.8% and declining. Employment is contracting. Even the Bank’s own statement puts inflation excluding gasoline at 2.2%, core inflation close to target, and longer-term inflation expectations firmly anchored. It acknowledges excess supply and expects new American tariffs to slow growth. Yet Macklem is raising rates because higher energy costs might eventually spread through the economy.
The distinction matters. Higher oil prices squeeze purchasing power; tariffs impair production and trade. Higher interest rates cannot fix either problem. They can, however, compound the damage by weakening spending, housing and investment. Macklem is responding to an external cost shock by imposing an additional domestic demand shock.
Second- and third-round inflation effects are risks to assess, not facts to assume!!! With underlying inflation subdued, jobs contracting and expectations anchored, the burden of proof lies with the central bank proposing to tighten. Its statement does not meet that burden.
Macklem increasingly resembles a Davos technocrat intellectually trapped in the 1970s: invoking the dangers of an inflationary spiral while discounting the weakness in front of him. The spectre of that decade has become a substitute for judgment.
His incompetence lies in that misdiagnosis. Hiking into a negative growth shocks leads to an avoidable recession.
He is making Canadians pay higher borrowing costs today to insure against inflationary spillovers that have not yet materialized broadly in the data.
A central bank should respond to evidence, not force today’s economy into yesterday’s cautionary tale.
Yes it’s true: Tiff Macklem is worse than John Crow. The worst governor of the Bank of Canada in modern history.

Mark Carney doubled the deficit, and now the Bank of Canada has raised interest rates, putting more pressure on Canadians with mortgages, car loans, and lines of credit.

Hold on a second. Canadians have been told, for months, that a key tenet in the Prime Minister's whole trade strategy is "walk away from Washington, pivot to Europe". Now we find out his own officials told him in December 2025 that the pivot runs straight into a wall?
The EU's carbon tariff hits Canadian steel, iron and aluminum, the same metals already hit by U.S. tariffs. And even though, with great fanfare, the Prime Minister is forging ahead with some kind of "associate membership" for Canada in the EU, an exemption is "not currently possible." In other words, he sat on that detail for 10 months, until an access to information request forced it out days before he hosts the Canada-EU Summit.
So the plan is: turn down the August terms that were agreed then disagreed to in three days with the U.S., tell workers Europe is the answer, and quietly know Europe is putting up its own border charge. According to the @CBCNews report, that charge is close to $900M a year in exposure in Newfoundland and Labrador, $792M in Quebec, and adds up to $150 more per tonne of steel by 2034.
And recall that he weakened the carbon price in his Alberta deal while knowing that, with it, he made an EU exemption even harder to get.
What kind of diversification is it if you're trading one tariff wall for two and hoping nobody reads the memo?

"Every year I'm saying this is the most expensive crop we've ever put in... and I'm getting kind of tired of saying that." That’s what one farmer told me about sky-high diesel prices.
The numbers are staggering.

When it comes to the Canadian economy, Ben Rabidoux is one of the best. He knows the data as well as anyone, speaks plainly, takes a view, and is unencumbered by corporate overloads. His views are never static, and he has the guts to admit fault if and when he errs. I cannot recommend his research enough.
And, yes, sometimes, I get jealous of his charts!

WATCH QP October 27, 2026: The government is not a family-run business. The Prime Minister created an official Government role for his wife as Canada's new "Ocean Envoy" and gave her more than $1.2 billion tax dollars to work with. Liberals shut down a motion to have her appear at Committee to explain her new role, her mandate, her priorities, and what the $1.2 Billion tax dollars will be used for. #cdnpoli

Mark Carney can't balance the books, even when he's cooked them.
Now, debt interest is costing a family of four nearly $6,000. Every year.
He's out of touch. You're out of money.

💯
Europe's economy is in shambles and fracturing politically. The idea that they will lead the 'new world order' is laughable.
From a Canadian perspective, the push to join the EU is contrived and clearly not in the best interests of regular Canadians. It is about breathing life into a tired globalist establishment and bailing out a failed ideology.

We are truly plumbing the depths of Liberal incompetence.

💯. Some genocide when Arab party’s hold the balance of power in Israeli Parliament. Question. Which Arab country gives the opportunity for any minority let alone Jews, to hold the balance of power?
To everyone peddling the “Israel apartheid” lie, I have shocking (and inconvenient) news for you. Arab Israelis turned out to vote in extraordinary numbers today.
Exit polls give Arab-led parties 16–18 seats in Israel's parliament. For comparison, Netanyahu's Likud is projected to win around 25 seats.
For those still howling “apartheid,” let this sink in:
1️⃣ Arab citizens voted
2️⃣ There are Arab political parties
3️⃣ Arab leaders could play a decisive role in determining who forms Israel's next government
