HEARNS SLEEPS DURAN WITH CRUSHING SECOND ROUND FINISH Tommy Hearns faced Roberto Duran for the WBC super welterweight title on June 15 1984 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Hearns used his reach to land clean power shots and dropped Duran twice in the opening round. A dazed Duran even wandered toward the wrong corner before his corner guided him back. Referee Carlos Padilla allowed the fight to continue after the standing counts. In round two Hearns resumed the assault and landed a devastating right hand to the jaw. Duran fell face first to the canvas and Padilla stopped the contest at one minute and seven seconds. Judges Harry Gibbs Hans LeVert and Newton Campos had scored the first round heavily for Hearns before the early stoppage.

🥊 #OnThisDay in 2013: Timothy Bradley survived a fierce battle with Juan Manuel Márquez to retain his WBO welterweight world title via a razor-thin split decision. Márquez was furious, insisting: “I clearly won. I have been robbed six…” A night of controversy, debate and boxing drama! Did the judges get it right, or was Márquez robbed of a victory? #Boxing

THE LIONESS AMANDA NUNES STUNS JULIANNA PENA TO RECLAIM UFC BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE Amanda Nunes met Julianna Peña in their UFC 277 title rematch following an earlier upset loss. Early action saw Nunes use southpaw counters and distance to frustrate the charging Peña across the first round. Round two turned explosive when Nunes landed three knockdowns with sharp rights and a left that set a women's UFC record. Peña rose each time yet absorbed heavy damage as Nunes refused to rush and kept landing clean. From round three onward Nunes secured takedowns then rained ground strikes that bloodied Peña while controlling more than eleven minutes overall. All three judges scored every round for Nunes producing cards of 50-45 50-44 and 50-43 for a unanimous decision. The dominant performance restored Nunes as champion and cemented another chapter in her legendary career.

THE MOMENT THE RULES DIE THE VIOLENCE TAKES OVER The exact second a regulated MMA bout collapsed. A clinch became raw aggression that quickly spilled. Security and the crowd got pulled in. It mirrors the Tyson-Holyfield ear bite because ego and adrenaline override every safeguard. Combat sports deliberately sell controlled violence. Lose that control and everyone involved is suddenly at real risk.

She almost passed out🤷‍♂️ One perfectly timed straight left from Alexa Grasso dropped Maycee Barber cold at 2:42 of round one—then, without hesitation, Grasso spun and locked a rear-naked choke before the referee could even fully intervene, ending one of the most sudden, violent finishes in recent women’s flyweight history. Five years after their first meeting (a decision win for Grasso), the rematch carried real stakes. Grasso, the former flyweight champion who had gone winless in her previous three outings against elite competition including Valentina Shevchenko and Natalia Silva, entered healthy and underdog, calling Barber one of her favourite fighters because “she goes in there to fight” and predicting they would “try to rip each other’s heads off.” Barber, on a seven-fight streak and seeking revenge for that 2021 loss, framed it as unfinished business and a path toward the title picture. The face-off was charged; both arrived looking sharp and ready for war. No belt was on the line, but the former champion’s statement performance—capped by the $100,000 Performance of the Night bonus—signalled she was back in contention. After the stoppage, Grasso immediately kneeled beside the motionless Barber rather than celebrating, staying close until medical staff attended and Barber began to recover—a quiet act of sportsmanship that commentators and fans noted as pure martial arts class. Grasso later said she simply “wanted her to wake up as soon as possible.” In her octagon interview she thanked the crowd, declared “I’m back… without injuries it’s a different Alexa,” and asked the UFC for a hometown event in Guadalajara instead of an immediate call-out. Barber, who later confirmed she was okay after a frightening stretch lying still with eyes open, posted graciously: “I got caught and Alexa did an amazing thing. She’s a phenomenal fighter… I will be back.” In a sport that can turn brutal in an instant, the respect shown on both sides after such a violent sequence stood out.

James argued it was a KO but it was ruled as a slip. Tyson vs Bonecrusher, 1987: The night Iron Mike was born and the first man to survive him. 20-year-old Mike Tyson (WBC champ, 28-0, 26 KOs) vs James “Bonecrusher” Smith (WBA champ). First time Tyson was announced as “Iron” Mike. 7-1 favourite for unification. Smith came in talking tough — said the media had built Tyson up like Santa Claus and that he was the first man who could actually knock him out. Reality: Smith spent the night clinching, got points taken twice by Mills Lane, and barely threw. Tyson landed 191 punches to Smith’s 51 and won every round on the cards (UD 120-106, 119-107, 119-107). First time Tyson was forced the full championship distance. A round 7 “knockdown” was ruled a slip. Smith’s best moment came in the final seconds when a right hand briefly buckled Tyson’s legs. Post-fight, Tyson was blunt: “It was an easy fight. When I tried to punch he grabbed. This hurts boxing. People expect a performance.” Smith: “I did the best I could. He has a devastating left hook… but he couldn’t knock out the Bonecrusher.” The crowd booed. The belts were unified. And the legend of Iron Mike kept rolling.

JULIAN EROSA STUNS JEONGYEONG LEE WITH RETIREMENT ROUND KNOCKOUT Julian Erosa and JeongYeong Lee touched gloves and the pace ignited instantly inside the Octagon. Lee immediately dropped Erosa with a crisp punch, leaving the retiring veteran in early peril during the scramble. Erosa recovered from the knockdown and brief grappling threat, working back to his feet with resilience. The pair traded blows in the center as Julian Erosa regained composure against JeongYeong Lee. An epic looping right hand from Erosa floored JeongYeong Lee hard near the middle of the cage. Erosa swarmed with follow-up punches until referee Chris Tognoni stepped in and halted the action. No score line existed from judges because the bout ended by first-round knockout at 1:31, with the referee’s stoppage decision sealing the fairytale win.

Floyd Mayweather handed Saúl Álvarez his first professional defeat, yet one judge somehow scored the fight a draw. Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saúl Álvarez MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas. September 14, 2013. Mayweather entered at 44–0 (26 KOs), while the 23-year-old Álvarez was 42–0–1 (30 KOs). They met in a junior middleweight title unification bout at a 152-pound catchweight. Álvarez was coming off a win over Austin Trout, while Mayweather, at 36, had spent years making elite opponents struggle to figure him out. After 12 rounds, Mayweather won by majority decision. Two judges scored it 117–111 and 116–112 for Mayweather, but C.J. Ross controversially had it 114–114. That drawn scorecard remains one of the most debated parts of a fight many felt Mayweather won comfortably. #BoxingHistory #Boxing
