Love to see this @RobertIrvine getting the recognition for the important work you do for our men and women in uniform - a true gift of a human being. Honored to call you friend !
Robert Irvine is home eleven days a year. The other 345-plus, he's on the road — running a restaurant empire, leading the Robert Irvine Foundation for veterans and first responders and finding broken systems to fix.
His latest project is a 41-show national tour with rock band O.A.R., using their 30th anniversary run to raise money and host veterans at every stop.
But the work he's most proud of is quieter. For 23 years, Robert has been reforming how the U.S. Army feeds its soldiers — changing legislation, opening six dining facilities and redesigning both the menus and the physical spaces. Executive chefs, nutritionists, smartphone ordering and food cooked to order. Before the renovations, zero soldiers used the facilities. Now it's 7,000 a day.
He does it for a dollar a year. He's never seen the dollar.
"People say to me, 'It can't be done,'" he told Entrepreneur. "I'm like, 'Whatever dude.' I'm gonna prove it can."
His framework for impact is worth paying attention to regardless of your industry: find what's broken, understand why it's broken and fix it better than anyone thought possible — not just for the organization, but for the end user. In his case, that's soldiers. In yours, it might be customers, employees or a community.
And on making an impact without resources: "You don't have to have money to make an impact. It doesn't cost money to be nice. It doesn't cost money to listen." He points to small acts — paying for someone's groceries when they push them aside at the register, volunteering wherever your heart takes you — as the foundation everything else is built on.
The people who fix broken things don't wait for permission or a budget. They just start.

Many Philadelphians struggle with nutrition-related conditions. SNAP-Ed provided culinary and nutrition education for low-income communities, but was recently eliminated by federal budget cuts. The CEO of @vetricommunity shares what we can do.
