The future of #ArtificialIntelligence is not pre-determined. As a technology developed by human beings, its future depends on the choices we make. We therefore have the responsibility to guide, change and, when necessary, reject its applications. A reliable system that serves the human person is of greater value than one that is exceptionally powerful but whose consequences cannot be adequately foreseen or controlled.

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

Hey @cineworld I used to be able to book tickets on behalf of another Unlimited member but with your latest update it doesn't seem possible anymore. Any way I can add them to my account like before? Cheers

Much of the discourse here reminds me of this quote by J. R. R. Tolkien.
Too many people on this app are too comfortable using degrading and dehumanizing language.

Here at Galadriel, we are building a different kind of AI. Instead of a Dark Lord, it will be a queen. Not dark but beautiful and terrible as the dawn! Tempestuous as the sea, and stronger than the foundations of the earth! All shall love it and despair!

I ... drew a random life and died at age 3 in the Yangtze River Delta. This deeply humanistic art project will give you as much a sense of perspective of how far humanity has come as a species as Oregon Trail for going West in North America.
Whoa- this is the most fantastic pedagogical tool I’ve encountered in as long as I can remember (which is a helluva high bar, considering who I live with). I’m so excited to have my 6yo play with it! And you all should too. anyhumanever.com/

Ok... but these pics look like Badenoch and Meloni have had a fabulous lesbian wedding, don't they?!
Once upon a time, it was Italy’s economy in the doldrums. Today Italy’s borrowing costs are lower than Britain’s. Markets and investors have more confidence in Georgia Meloni’s Italy than in Labour’s Britain. People wrote Prime Minister @GiorgiaMeloni off, saying she wouldn’t last six months. In 10 days she will be leading the longest-serving government in the history of the Italian Republic. She is a straight-talking, no-nonsense woman who knows what she believes and stands her ground. She has restored confidence in Italy, brought job creators back and shown what serious centre-right government can achieve. I wanted to understand how she did it, because after Labour, Britain is going to need exactly that kind of resolve and Conservatives are going to deliver it.

While I agree with the sentiment, the tweet is full of inaccuracies. People on ILR/Visas aren’t the bulk of the workforce and data shows that often migrant workers tend to be net beneficiaries of the welfare state for various reasons
If you want to keep people on ILR/ Visas for 10-15 years without any safety nets in a country where literally everything, from the government to the private sector, was designed with the idea that people will have that safety net, then you should exempt them from paying taxes that go that Welfare pot so that they can get private insurance & savings to protect themselves and their families. They cannot contribute their money to a large welfare system that they are not going to benefit from. What kind of extractive system is that? When will the British Empire stop trying to squeeze every last bit it can from people and leave them high and dry? This is not even taking into account that the same people that you want to exclude make up the bulk of the Labour keeping that Welfare system running.

We should oppose such a measure on discriminatory grounds and not add inaccuracies to a discourse that’s already full of lies and misinformation

I will accept Nigel Farage’s request to be appointed Steward and Bailiff of the Manor of Northstead. It is a farce and a desperate distraction, and the people of Clacton deserve better. But if he wants to spend the summer arguing with a bin, I won't stop him.

Seven years ago a representative from Google reached out to me in an official capacity to discuss the company's energy use. I told them it would become necessary for major firms in core economies to reduce energy use in order to enable Paris-compliant decarbonisation. They assured me that their new AI tools were already helping them identify ways to improve the company's energy efficiency, so they weren't worried. They insisted this would soon yield radical efficiency improvements, and lead to energy use reduction without any change to their production activities. "Just wait, you'll see!" they told me, full of confidence. I told them that's not how it works. In growth-oriented capitalist firms, savings from efficiency improvements are generally leveraged to expand production. I predicted that even if their AI found ways to improve efficiency, Google's energy use would go up, not down. Seven years later and this is where we're at:

It is important to resist the commodification of basic human needs. Food, water and healthcare cannot be subordinated to market considerations or geopolitical interests. Access to adequate food is a fundamental human right grounded in the dignity of every person. Meeting this need not only alleviates suffering but also addresses underlying causes of geopolitical instability. Indeed, food security is an essential component of global and integral security. vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/e…
