i retired from making video games several years ago. i hated it. i love everything about the craft. but the industry absolutely sucks. getting paid to work on a game is a dream come true. but the teams were so big that they have to be activel managed. and then the managers rule the world and its all over.
consider ai as the solution to the problem.
“But I have never encountered a replicator that could compose music, or paint landscapes, or perform microsurgery.”
-Tuvok, defending the holographic Doctor’s rights as an artist in Star Trek: Voyager’s “Author, Author.”
If I’m going to be in an echo chamber, I want it to be people saying, “Fuck it, let’s be creative in any and every way possible. Use whatever tools you want.”
Make weird shit. Try things. See what happens.

Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, the acclaimed designer behind Super Mario and Zelda, has explained why he believes generative AI won’t make human creativity obsolete.

This one left them all behind.

The bottleneck in AI game development isn't the models anymore. It's my own creativity.
AI has allowed me to approach genres that historically required a lot of prior knowledge and experience, and it teaches me along the way. E.g. I'm building a heavily physics-based game (excavator simulator) and a music experience.
I learn in real time while pulling off work that used to take specialized teams months. The impossible is now within reach :-)
All this makes it an insane time for juniors breaking in. You can rapidly build real experience without being encumbered by the knowledge of what used to be impossible. AI is so new and changing so fast that there’s no large body of entrenched experience to overcome. The way we prompt today is already very different from a year ago.
What it takes is an open mind, curiosity, and grit!
And a lot of the seasoned veterans I’m talking to are having the time of their lives. They can finally apply their experience to pure creative direction and let the AI execute.
Wild time to be making games... and to be alive in general.

AI is the new punk rock - @RickRubin
1000% agree and have been saying this for a while that we are entering a new golden era of creativity thanks to AI. Where my fellow punk rock AI creatives at? filmmakers, vibe coders, artists… let me know what you’re making.

Very excited to share the most important discovery of my career yet: your brain switches between a conscious and an unconscious mode ~15 times every second. Consciousness may depend not on where in the brain activity occurs but when.

Some Ghosts Were Once the People We Loved.
Not all ghosts come back to haunt us. Some never really left.
They live in the songs we can no longer listen to, in the places we avoid, and in the little things we still remember when nobody is watching.
As we grow older, we learn that losing someone doesn’t always mean watching them die. Sometimes, it means watching them become a stranger. Sometimes, it means saying goodbye without knowing it was the last time.
And sometimes, the hardest part isn’t losing them. It’s waking up every morning and learning to live without the person you once thought would always be there.
People tell us to move on. And we do. We go to work, make dinner, laugh with friends, and pretend that life has returned to normal.
But there are nights when a single memory can undo years of healing.
Perhaps that’s what ghosts really are.
Not the dead who refuse to leave.
But the living who never learned how to say goodbye.
And the saddest thing about growing older is realizing that some people will remain young in our memories, while we continue to grow old without them.

Practically all VFX workflows are incorporating AI, just not necessarily in the way people here expect. It's sourcing textures, references, previz, modeling, cleaning, roto, syncing. Aside from brute force tasks they're using hybrid tools to generate backgrounds, extras, and sometimes shots that may get modified. It saves endless man hours and compute time. It's generational shift tech, it's here, and giant productions pretending it's not is a temporary smokescreen.
Not sure where it goes or how fast it gets there, but the irony is major studios and VFX companies are already sailing on that ship while low budget filmmakers are publicly whipped when they step their toes into a dinghy.
