Rolling All-Time Scottish Players in the EPL
Some "blasts from the past" in this historic timeline :)
*Stats up to the end of 2025/26
This follows on from my earlier post with the yearly most appearances by player.

At what point do the @ScottishFA genuinely sort the level of officiating out in this country it's abysmal, beyond embarrassing. If there is no one capable of refereeing in Scotland fairly and competently. Get over the border and have English refs doing our games with no bias

Second @ScotlandNT call-up for Robbie Ure! 🏴🤩
Congratulations, Robbie! ✊
My Goat 🐐 Big Dunc with a good deed and lovely reward for a true worker. Hope he ends up at Tannadice one day, ideally after getting the management malarky right 🙏
A big (Dunc) surprise... 🤩
After reaching 60 years of working in the @nhsUHLG, we teamed up with Hill Dickinson and a very familiar face, to celebrate 77-year-old Sheila – a true unsung hero. 💙
Hope Big Dunc has some success 🙌
Pigeons and policemen 🐦👮🤣
An interesting introduction to life in Belfast for both Duncan Ferguson and the local media

2 months on and I've seen nothing to change my mind, waste of a jersey in Perth yesterday, Lachie Rose showed far more desire, pressing and energy.
Great to see Robbie Ure get started ⚽️
🚨 ROBBIE URE PUTS HIS SIDE 1-0 AHEAD! INVALUABLE GOAL TO BREAK THE DEADLOCK!
🇪🇸 Levante 0-1 Sevilla

Gutting that red card, Jack Hendry costing Kieron Bowie a massive opportunity tonight is totally frustrating. 10 man Scotland on Mission Impossible now already in this game :(
As mentioned in this Championship post, I didn't think Kristi Montgomery was far away from a call up 😉

Players Eligible for Scotland NT 🏴
(Minutes ⏱️, appearances & info ℹ️)
For over 15 years, many Scotland internationals have got their weekly minutes in England's 2nd tier, an exciting league with former EPL big clubs, up and coming teams, rebuilt sides after relegation but with hundred of international players in the league.
A "run down" club by club in the order of the current table (just to be different!) from the "registered 1st team squads".
⚪️Swansea City (1st)
Stephen Welsh (CB) 26
Has started every league game with the table topping Swans after his move from Celtic. Swansea have conceded...1 goal in the league. 446 mins played (5 starts).
Ross Stewart (ST) 30
Another summer mover from Southampton, Currently has a quad injury. 9 mins played as sub
Jay Fulton (Mid) 32 🏴🏴
Former Sco U21, unlikely to ever be called up but has captained Swansea twice this season. 354 mins played, 4 starts, 1 sub and a league cup app.
🔴Middlesbrough (2nd)
Jon McLaughlin (GK) 38
3rd choice veteran GK, 0 mins played
Connor Barron (Mid) 24
Just arrived from Rangers on loan, Did make 2 appearances vs Jablonec in the Conf League Q
Only action this season. 77 mins (1 start)
Tommy Conway (Att) 24
Not long back from injury, substitute in the last 3 games. 68 mins played.
Kyle Joseph (Att) 24 🏴🏴
Capped at Sco U21, arrived from promoted Hull City, 3 starts, 2 subs & 2 LC apps, scored against Doncaster, been playing wider to accommodate free-scoring Will Lankshear in the Boro side. 368 mins 1 goal.
🔵QPR (3rd)
Liam Morrison (CB) 23
On loan at Aberdeen last season, the former Celtic & Bayern Munich academy player hasn't featured.
0 mins
Karamoko Dembele (AM) 23 🏴🏴🇨🇮
Another player with multiple international eligibilites
Former Celtic youth, with spells in France & sunny Blackpool has also not featured. 0 mins
🟣West Brom (5th)
Barney Stewart (ST) 22 🏴🏴
Burst onto the scene and into the goals, with Dunfermline then Falkirk last season, earning the big money move. Restricted so far to league sub apps and 1 LC start (vs Newcastle at least!) 133mins played.
🔴Charlton Athletic (6th)
Rob Apter (Winger) 23 🏴🏴
Has been on the bench so far, made 1 sub app & played 90 vs Spurs in the league cup. 101 mins
Karlan Grant (Winger) 28 🏴🏴
Has been mentioned a few times over the years, would be a "leftfield" call-up. KG used to play more centrally as a striker, but now used wide. 5 league starts, 1 LC app. 457 mins, 1 goal, 1 Assist.
Josh Edwards (LB) 26
Left Dunfermline a few seasons back when Charlton were in L1, not featured this season. 0 mins
🔵Millwall (7th)
Lyndon Dykes (ST) 30
Dykes probably needed a move, and his Millwall career has started promising with a recent double vs Bolton. 2 league starts, 3 subs, 1 LC start.
299mins played, 2 goals.
Daniel Kelly (Mid) 20
DK has featured in all of Millwall's games so far.
2 starts and 5 sub apps, 218 mins played.
🔵Birmingham City
Scott Wright (Winger) 29
1 solitary league cup minute, did make the bench in league game vs Wrexham. 1min
Marc Leonard (CM) 24
Out long term injured with Achilles rupture. After a decent spell at Hearts on loan, frustrating time for the player no doubt.
Probable return 2027. 0 mins
🔴Wrexham
Dominic Hyam (CB) 30
The Leuchars lad, continues to captain Wrexham having spent his entire career in England. Ever present
540/540 mins played 👏
🟡Norwich City
Kenny McLean (CM) 34
Another club captain, ever present in league and 1 cup app playing Defensive mid. 530 mins played 1 assist.
Gabe Forsyth (Mid) 20
Glaswegian that came through Hamilton's youth ranks, not been in any squads yet, capped at Sco u19 level.
🔴Stoke City
George Hirst (ST) 27
Helped Ipswich to promotion before being sold for a reported £6m+ add-on's to Stoke. 4 starts in league since signing, 1 LC sub, scored vs Charlton.
279 mins 1 goal
Luke Graham (CB) 22
Signed from Dundee after a great season in Scotland,
3 league starts, 2 league cup starts. Last 2 games have been clean sheets. 450 mins played
Sam Gallagher (Att) 30🏴🏴
Has played over 300 games at Championship level, but never seen any real enquiries from a Scotland manager from memory. 6ft 4 and very versatile positionally, has played all Stoke's games. 396 mins, 1 goal, 1 assist.
🔴Sheffield United
Ryan One (ST) 20 🏴🇫🇷
Featured in the opening 2 games of the season as sub, but hasn't played since, cant find any injury news?
Scotland u'21 cap. 33 mins played, 1 assist.
Joe Rothwell (Mid) 31 🏴🏴
The former Man Utd academy player, had a fairly ill-fated spell at Rangers and I don't think will ever come into international contention, however he remains eligible. 5 starts, 312 mins played, 1 assist.
🔵Blackburn Rovers
Kristi Montgomery (Mid) 22 🏴🏴
Highly rated midfielder that has been with Scotland since the U'16s. KM has started every league game this season after breaking through last year and featured twice in the LC. 491mins played
🔴Lincoln City
Ben House (LW/AM) 27 🏴🏴
A long time ago, Ben was a Sco U'21, newly promoted with Lincoln he's started the season well with 5 starts and 2 goals. Unlikely to be in contention, however, if he ever becomes a "fully fledged" Scot he surely adopts a middle name "The" haha. 386 mins played
Conor McGrandles (CM) 30
Left Falkirk 10 years ago and never returned to Scottish football, good to see him getting another crack at Championship football. 5 league starts, captaining Lincoln twice.
526 mins played
🔴Southampton
Cammy Bragg (Mid) 21 🏴🏴
Scotland U'21 that has seen opportunities arise following a big summer of sales at Southampton.
3 league starts, a cup start and couple of sub apps.
310 mins, 1 assist
⚪️Derby County
Max Johnston (RB) 22
Back playing after injury issues last season just as he broke into the National squad. has featured in all Derby's games so far. Mix of starts and sub apps. Needs to nail down the RB berth at club level IMO.
189 mins played.
Alex Mowatt (Mid) 31 🏴🏴
There were a few press rumours, 3 or 4 years ago that Mowatt might be a useful squad addition, due to age it's an unlikely outcome now, Has played all Derby's games and is known to be a very consistent player at Championship level. 453 mins played
Craig Forsyth (LB) 37
15 years ago the man from Carnoustie left Dundee for Watford, not a contender in any capacity for more caps, but, a Scotsman that has plied his trade admirably amassing 350+ appearances at Champ level. 190mins played but injured at moment.
⚪️Bolton Wanderers
Ryan Hardie (ST) 29
Former Scotland U'21 that has always had a good goal ratio at English Championship & L1 level. Often thought to have been on the peripherals of squads but never happened. Ship has probably sailed at 29.
Would need to rattle in the goals this season for consideration. 4 sub apps, 78 mins played.
David Watson (Mid) 21
Scotland U'21, summer move from Killie. has only featured twice from the bench in all comps so far, seemed close to full squad this time last year. Needs minutes to get back in contention. U21's cert.
24 mins played
Ethan Erhahon (Mid) 25 🏴🇳🇬
3 starts and sub app for the former St Mirren man & Sco U21 cap, getting more game time than Watson above. 261 mins played
🔵Cardiff City
David Turnbull (Mid) 27
5 caps from Steve Clarke but a career hampered by injury, knee, hamstring & groin injuries have kept the former Scottish Young Player of the Year from truly establishing himself for club and country. Injuries costing DT almost 100 games out, it's less than 3 years ago that he was facing Lazio & Ath Madrid in the UCL... Could be a pivotal season. 4 apps this season.
219 mins played.
⚪️Preston NE
Liam Lindsay (CB) 30
Called up less than 2 years ago for the Nations league games vs Portugal and Croatia, LL seems to have been another player "just" on the outside of the NT. By all accounts an extremely solid CB with almost 250 Eng Champ games under his belt. Always been a regular starter, 5 starts and 380 mins played.
-----------------------------------------
I've hopefully not missed anyone from the registered main squads here and this is simply looking at the "player pool" of options. You would like to think and hope every single one of these players is known to the SFA! Some of the above will never be called up, some have been in squads and some will feature in the future.
Due to injury there will be a minimum of 4 spots open up in the main squad (Shankland & McTominay 100% out, Gordon retired, Stewart very unlikely from the WC squad. Tyler Fletcher for me hasn't had the minutes and then there could be some natural succession for a couple of the older guard).
IMO - Stephen Welsh, Tommy Conway, Luke Graham have to be in strong contention for the NT.
Cammy Bragg, Kristi Montgomery & Kyle Joseph surely aren't a million miles away?
As always your thoughts, opinions, debate, shares, comments all welcomed.
Cheers 🏴

While I quite like the squad itself, the graphic and lack of club detail or positions is poor. The lack of Cameron Bragg unless he's injured is bizarre given how much he's been playing for Southampton

An "Early days" sample with only 5 games taken into account for each GK, Sinisalo would appear to be the best overall GK across most of the metrics,
Celtic rarely "going long" from GK kicking, contributes to the impressive quantity and accuracy quality of passes from Celtic, Motherwell & Hearts.
My own IMO observation would be of how Nick Daws & team (Motherwell) and Jamestown (Hearts) really analyse an exact type of player to suit their current style of play and formation before recruiting.
Both GK's really suiting the clubs at present.
All the GK's save more than half the shots on target they face at this stage, however, Owen Goodman & Marius Muller's shot-stopping numbers are impressive. Goodman is guilty of losing possession often from his distribution.
Jacob Chapman (54) & Scott Bain (43) have the best long kicking with good numbers reaching their intended player accurately. Chapman also seems to enjoy a penalty save!
11 different nationalities of GK as no.1 at present, not sure if that's a unique record or not I'll ask a man who may know!
-
Will do a mid season analysis to see how the numbers stack up then!
Feel free to comment, share, debate, argue etc :)

Cheers 🏴
